Our New Year breaks are unavailable to book for winter 2020.
A self-guided walking break is a novel and enjoyable way to see in the New Year. Staying at a hotel chosen for its warm hospitality and location, you can spend your days exploring our suggested walking routes – we provide carefully compiled route notes – and mark New Year’s Eve with a special celebratory dinner.
An Inntravel New Year walking break is about more than the walking. It’s a Slow holiday, so take the time as you explore to admire the views, and on New Year’s Eve savour a dinner of traditional local flavours, perhaps mingling with locals in the street later as the bells chime. With no group, it’s you who chooses which route to explore each day and who sets the pace. You can trust us to select well-located hotels of character, and to provide reliable route notes to guide you, so relax and enjoy…
Part of the appeal of our New Year walking breaks is that they give you the chance to escape to warmer climes, so our selection includes hotels in southern Spain, Tenerife and Gozo. Although most are in rural locations, we also offer New Year breaks in the Spanish cities of Seville and Salamanca, which you can explore on foot by day, following our comprehensive notes for self-guided walking tours.
How our New Year walking breaks are graded
Inntravel’s New Year walking breaks cater for all levels. So, whether you are looking for easy walking, mountain hikes, or something in between, you’ll find a break to suit. To help you choose, we grade our breaks as follows:
Generally easy walking with few ascents / descents, but perhaps the occasional long day.
Easy-to-moderate walking with some ascents / descents, and occasional longer days.
Moderate walking on varied terrain, with some long days and regular ascents / descents.
Moderate-to-challenging walking on more rugged terrain with significant ascents / descents on most days. Compass skills may be required (check the individual holiday).
Challenging hikes, featuring long days with significant ascent / descent on challenging terrain. Compass skills may be required.
Choice of easier or harder routes, so that you can tailor most days to your requirements.
What to expect from your New Year walking break
There are three elements that we consider essential to a relaxing New Year walking break (and, in fact, all Inntravel holidays): a beautiful setting; hand-picked accommodation where you’ll find a warm welcome; and excellent local cuisine.
Comprehensive route notes
We take great pride in our route guides, updating them constantly so that you have the most current information and can enjoy the richest possible holiday experience. Walking at a pace that suits you, you can rely on them to steer you from A to B, and fill you in about places of interest and local culture along the way.
Your holiday, your way
Not being part of a group means you can stay in intimate hotels and guesthouses, and gives you so much freedom. Freedom to choose your start date, the length of your holiday (feel free to add extra nights) and your travel route – we’ll happily book a bespoke travel package for you, either by air, by rail or by ferry.
We’ve built up a wealth of experience since we started in 1984. Whether you’ve got a query or wish to book a holiday, you’ll deal with friendly experts who share a passion for travel and who have stayed in our featured hotels and walked our routes. They’ll be delighted to answer your questions and help you plan your perfect holiday.
