Meal arrangements: dinner & breakfast

Spidsbergseter Hotel
The Spidsbergseter started out in 1919 as a farm (‘seter’ translates as ‘mountain pasture’), but is now a comfortable, homely hotel. Hosts Elise Løkken and Sindre Spidsberg, a descendant of the man who built and lent his name to the farm, are keen to keep it as a family concern and preserve its heritage. As such, the original building has been thoughtfully renovated and retains lots of character.

Rooms with shared balcony (included)

Rooms with shared balcony (included)
Located at the front of the hotel so that they benefit from the far-reaching views across the plateau from their shared balcony, these bedrooms are traditionally Norwegian in style, clad in wood panelling painted in light colours to create a bright and airy feel. All have a shower and are equipped with a television and fridge, as well as free wifi.

For a family of four you can choose a family room. These are twin or double and then the additional beds are either a double sofa bed or two single sleeping chairs which fold out into a bed. Please note that the room is quite small when all the beds are out and they do not have a balcony.

Family apartments (upgrade option)

Comprising a shower room, a small kitchenette, a balcony and two bedrooms, the family apartments can sleep up to three. Like our included rooms, they are equipped with a television, fridge and free wifi.

Leisure facilities

Leisure facilities
There are several inviting log-cabin-style snugs which retain features such as open fires recalling the building’s origins as a mountain farm, plus a small library in what was once the farm kitchen. One of the old stone-built goat barns, meanwhile, has been converted into the world’s only aquavit barn (open certain days only), making an atmospheric setting in which to sample a few of the 140 or so varieties of this most Norwegian of spirits. A curling lane, and an indoor pool complex with a counter-current device, steam bath, sauna and whirlpool, complete the picture.

Children’s facilities

Children’s facilities
Children are likely to want to spend a lot of their time at the hotel in the swimming pool, which has a waterfall and a climbing wall at one end. If they don’t want to get wet, there is table tennis and a playroom.

Restaurant

Restaurant
The restaurant is renowned locally, particularly for its legendary dinner buffets of Norwegian specialities which are usually laid on at least once a week. The picture windows look out over the plateau, making the first-class meals all the more special. The extensive buffet breakfasts are also served here.
