Fefor Hotel, Fefor

Highlands – a cross-country skier’s paradise
The settlement
It is hard to beat the seclusion of the Fefor Hotel – it sits above a frozen lake in its own woodland dale, with views of the Jotunheimen Mountains beyond.

Meal arrangements: breakfast, dinner & lunch pack

Fefor Hotel
The Fefor Hotel dates from the late 19th century. The warm hospitality and cosy, convivial atmosphere belie the fact that it is larger than many of our hotels (there are over 100 rooms), and this special ambience is complemented by the hotel’s secluded, tranquil position in an area of outstanding beauty.

Large south-facing rooms (included)

The bedrooms – all with a shower, television and telephone (hairdryers are available from reception) – are simply furnished but spacious, the warm colours of the décor and the traditional dark-wood furniture so typical of Gudbrandsdalen lending a feeling of cosiness. Their southern aspect means that they enjoy views over the lake.

Historic rooms (upgrade option)

Historic rooms (upgrade option)
Bright and airy thanks to the use of delicate pastel colours, these rooms are, as their name suggests, located in the original part of the hotel.

Junior suites (upgrade option)

The advantage of the junior suites is that they have a sitting area. Some have a shower, others have a bath.

Leisure facilities

Leisure facilities
While the latter-day splendour of a Victorian lodge lives on in the three panoramic lounges, which are decorated with sepia photographs recording Captain Scott’s stay in 1891, the impressive modern facilities include a good-sized indoor swimming pool overlooking the lake, a small fitness room, saunas, a floodlit outdoor ice rink for skating and (less frequently) curling, and even a squash court. On most evenings live music is performed in the bar area, where there is space for dancing. If this is not your cup of tea, cards and board games can be borrowed from reception, where wifi is available.

The high-ceilinged, chandeliered restaurant offers a spectacular outlook over the lake. Except on certain days when a three-course sit-down meal is served, dinner is usually an extensive buffet of excellent regional dishes incorporating local produce wherever possible within the salads, soups and hot main-course dishes of meat, fish (some of it from the lake 100 metres away) or seafood. Children can dine as early as 6.30pm if they wish. Breakfasts are again a huge buffet including cold meats, cheeses, rolled herrings, breads, cereals and porridge sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, meaning there is plenty of choice from which to make your packed lunch. A light tea of sandwiches and cakes is served by the fire every afternoon.
