The area surrounding the hotel is extremely beautiful. Ski trails access is easy and choice of trails is limitless. Food was excellent and exceeded the expectations. Wonderful holiday. Thanks!
This was another, excellent trip to Yllas. The X-country skiing is simply wonderful, with a great choice of trails to suit all abilities on the doorstep. The hotel is incredibly welcoming, and all in all it's a great holiday and very special experience of Arctic Lapland in winter.
We are very familiar with crosscountry skiing in Norway but this was our first trip to Finland. Our holiday was in March. We found the landscape to be strikingly different but equally beautiful. We appreciated the tracks being consistently well groomed, and also that walkers and skiers with dogs had separate trails. We also enjoyed the numerous cafes that were available to us within relatively close proximity to the hotel. We had one additional activity: the reindeer farm visit: which we would highly recommend. The walk to the supermarket at Akaslompolo is quite a trek, so would suggest ensuring you don't plan a daily trip, but stock up well on one outing! We predominantly used the cafes for lunch, and in particular the wonderful Navetta Galleria 2km from hotel, so needed little else. Hot chocolate and digestifs after dinner in Humina pub were a great treat on the last night.
Hotel staff were without exception friendly and helpful.
Highlights were the wonderful clean snowy landscape and bright arctic light. The fine weather, with temperatures between -27 and -4, and the northern lights, were added extras.

This was our third visit to Äkäslompolo and we absolutely love Yllas Humina and the surrounding ski trails. It was such fun to introduce some friends to this incredible landscape and wonderful, friendly Laplanders.
The husky sledding was excellent, a highly experienced team explained in detail the trip and the route through snowy forests and across frozen lakes was magical.
We stumbled on Inntravel online when looking to book a winter holiday in Lapland, and we were thrilled with the agency's offerings. This bucket list vacation was remarkably affordable and well-organized. The Inntravel agents are professional, helpful, and knowledgeable. We will use this agency again.

We loved the trails, with picture postcard small cafes along some of the routes. The trails were well groomed and a refresher ski lesson on day 1 helped our confidence. The hotel staff were very knowlegeable and helpful and the cuisine was excellent. Dietary requirements were well catered for. The accommodation was very cosy. The Ski Bus is recommended for moving around with your ski kit.
Excellent trip - no Northern Lights unfortunately but all other aspects were good. Hotel food for breakfast and dinner was very good and plentiful, with different selections every night, so all those calories burnt during the day could be adequately replaced!
The mixture of difficulties on the trails made for a great experience improving our skills and improving our level of fitness. As pescatarians the food was fantastic. Dryers for clothes in the cabin was a great facility much appreciated and used every day
Personal highlights this year; it snowed + snowed + snowed while I was there this time. Its always something slightly different that I see as a 'highlight' (last year it was the amazing colours of the wintery sky). This years' icing on the cake was seeing Northern Lights when I went out for an evening walk on one of the odd occasions when the clouds lifted; + the sky was dark, the stars bright...+ then there it was; Northern Lights! As always the hotel was wonderful; lovely staff, delicious food, comfortable rooms. The snow covered landscape as spectacular as ever. Seeing occasional birds (dippers, siberian jays, 3 toed woodpeckers and siberian tits; as well as flocks of ravens) is always special; marvelling at how they survive a Lapland winter.
Check the weather before you go and buy the very best cold weather protection clothing that you can afford. If you think you have enough, think again! Being in -30 degs C is a whole differrent ballgame to the comparatively mild temperatures in the UK....
Great selection of XC trails. Not too busy before Christmas. Great selection of food at the hotel. Tips: bring a headtorch and subscribe to the online trail map.
That the Yllashumina Hotel is a most comfortable place to stay and Inntravel have put together an excellent package I am going to take as read and instead focus my comments on the cross-country (XC) skiing which is what we specifically went for, as did the vast majority of the hotel guests from around Europe. The hotel, situated on the north shore of the lake, is very well placed for access to the XC trails and particularly those leading into the national park. The trails are extensive and kept well groomed. Indeed, I would say that they were some of the best tracks I have skied on in Europe; firm and fast, an absolute joy! Up until a warm front arrived and brought the warmest mid/late March weather for 30 years and with it thaw/freeze conditions but that's the chance you take with outdoor sports.

Food was fabulous, husky sledging definitely to be recommended and seeing the Northern lights was a special bonus. The buffet dinner closed fairly promptly so be aware of that. We had a look at the downhill skiing but most of the lifts were shut even on a day with quite slight winds - probably not really worth considering as quite a small resort. Hotel staff really friendly and helpful.
This was a very different and unusual kind of holiday for us. It's not the shortest of journeys but the extra effort was completely worthwhile and justified. The hotel was excellent, and Finland is a great destination - very friendly and hospitable people, very well-organised, and everything works simply and effectively in a trouble-free way. We'd definitely go again. First and foremost our trip was for X-country skiing which was excellent on very well-groomed trails. A highlight was most definitely a spectacular viewing of the northern lights - simply unforgettable.

This was a most memorable experience. Being able to be in the Arctic in the winter and enjoying Finnish culture and hospitality was wonderful. The hotel, particularly the food, was outstanding, very comfortable warm rooms, a beautiful sauna, friendly and helpful staff. Trying our hand at cross country skiing was really fun (quite different from downhill skiing....lessons are a must!) and skiing through the snowy forests trails and across frozen lakes was magical. Snowmobiling into the wilderness was exhilarating. Dog sledding is limited due to reduced dog breeding programmes during covid...pre-booking essential. But witnessing the Northern Lights from just outside the hotel and from the frozen lake was the highlight. A very moving experience. We would recommend using an aurora website/app to alert you to the likelihood of seeing them.
Another wonderful week in Yllas. We go for cross country skiing which is always fantastic. Hotel and food excellent. Well worth the upgrade to superior cabin. Unfortunately the lake view from 43 was obscured by a large new house and fence.
Our second holiday at Hotel Yllashumina was excellent. The temperature was quite high at the beginning of the week (just 0 degrees) and consequently everywhere was quite icy but this changed quickly as the temperature dropped. We had wonderful days on the ski trails and walking routes. Our room had a bath (which was a wonderful!) and was very cosy for relaxing times. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our first post-Covid trip abroad was wonderful. Thank you
A beautiful area for all winter activities. Fat biking becoming increasingly popular; I'd advise customers planning to go cycling to come later in the season when the days are longer and more trails are open(and leave early January for me to walk on the shared trails without getting run over!)
The hotel is outstanding; the food is excellent; staff quietly efficient + helpful; rooms simple + comfortable.
Highlights this year? It's something different every year; this year it was just the amount of snow; thick + white everywhere; the snow covered trees even more spectacular than ever.

This area in Finland is excellent for cross-country ski-ing with well prepared trails over frozen lakes, through forests and over fells. There are little log-cabin cafes on the trails that are wonderful and warming to stop at, they are all different and we were delighted to arrive at one deep in the snowy woods on Christmas Day and find it open!
Great cross country skiing location and services. Highlights are the forest trails with a chance to see reindeer and red squirrels. There are a range of welcoming forest cafes close to the trails for lunch and coffee stops. Navettagalleria is the most interesting cafe and has a good range of cake/drink options as well as a fascinating elvish decor. Hotel Yllas Humina accommodation is good with excellent full board meals and friendly staff. Downhill skiing is readily accessible via the ski bus and is worth trying for a day or two although the slopes are best suited to beginners and intermediates.
We had the most wonderful week in Finland. The Yllas Humina was an amazing place to stay; the staff were so helpful and welcoming, the room was absolutely beautiful and it was slightly away from the main village so felt really peaceful, whilst still being within easy walking distance of the shops. We had a superior room and it was well worth the money, as everything was so comfortable and we had our own fireplace, as well as a private entrance. We arrived on 12th December which still counts as off peak, so there were not many people around which was brilliant, as it meant that we were the only people on all but one of our tours, so it was like a private tour but for the same price as if there had been 8-10 people! We booked the majority of our tours with Due North Safaris, located in the Akaslompolo village. They were fantastic and I'd highly recommend them to anyone, as they were so accommodating, friendly, and knowledgeable.
The whole holiday experience from start to finish was great, Inntravel were very helpful and the information pack that was sent prior to the trip was really thoughtful and useful; I wasn't expecting the level of detail that was in it, and it was very much appreciated! We'll definitely be booking with Inntravel again - 10/10.
