Valleys, Vines & Volcanoes

This was our first visit to Tenerife and Inntravel's brilliant choice of three different locations gave us such a wonderful discovery of the amazing variety in the terrain and geography of the island. All three hotels are in really intereresting locations with a great choice of walking routes/ drives. We definitely regret not staying an extra night at the superb La Laguna Gran Hotel and exploring further, but maybe keep that for next time. And without doubt the highlight of the week was the Teno Alto walk, truly spectacular and were so blessed with clear blue skies. Thank you Inntravel for an amazing introduction to an island which we had previously thought was not for us.

An excellent break in very pleasant hotels. I was delighted to discover Blue Chaffinches in the garden of the Villalba hotel in the shrubbery just outside the door!

Breathtaking views and good solid paths are the best way to explore beautiful rural Tenerife away from the crowds.

The whole trip was really top class. We had never been to Tenerife before and being there certainly exceeded our expectations! The weather was brilliant throughout, which of course makes a huge difference, but the walk selection and guidance notes from Inntravel were spot on for our needs. All accommodation was warm, friendly and welcoming and the car we had was excellent and it was the easiest car hire and pick up we had ever experienced. All in all an excellent trip and we would certainly have no hesitation in booking with Inntravel again.

The hotels were superb. All the staff who looked after us were helpful, friendly and very professional.

It was our first experience of Tenerife, the 3 locations to stay and the walks gave us a brilliant introduction to the island. The walks allowed us to explore the rainforests in the north, to the mountainous area in the middle of the island around El Teide and to the picturesque Garachico on the West coast. As ever you selected great hotels in ideal locations, all away from the main tourist areas. We would recommend to anybody looking to get to know the real Tenerife.

La Laguna roof top pool hit all the spots, the views and the pool itself. The town was vibrant, with many varied restaurants and shops. Wished we had had extra time to complete more walks.

Restaurants in Garachico were also good, didn't get to sample the hotel's restaurant. The two restaurants we used were Aristides and Rocmarc both excellent. My husband would recommend the local outdoor sea water pool at 1euro for the over 65's LOL.

The discovery drive to Icod we would highly recommend.

Could easily have added a day or so in each hotel.

Overall a very good holiday with plenty to do in addition to the set walks. The landscape in and around the Teide National Park was quite dramatic - you will be surprised at how many pictures you can take of rock formations! The three hotels are a good mix providing comfortable bases with excellent service. If you are visiting in (typically) May or Oct/Nov then be aware that there is official Mouflon culling in the Teide National Park on certain days and some of the walking paths may be closed. So if you want to do a particular walk when staying at Vilaflor, it would be a good idea to add in an extra day(s). Also, do not assume that the natural saltwater swimming pools and/or the outdoor public swimming pool will be open at Garachico. If it gets windy/stormy then the authorities may temporarily close them. 

This is an amazing holiday. We undertook three walks and also enjoyed one of the driving tours from Garachico. The transfer days were also very enjoyable with the suggested lookouts etc. For the arrival in Garachico, we would recommend that people park in the football stadium car park, rather than try to find the other car parks. The football stadium car park is large, so no problem getting a space, and is very close to both hotels (about 2 minutes to the Hotel San Roque (slightly longer with a suitcase) and 5 minutes to the Quinta Roja. All three hotels were excellent and the breakfasts were plentiful. My personal favourite was the Quinta Roja, with a rather quirky room and, if you lean out of the room slightly, you got an ocean view!

Aristides Restaurant in Garachico - just across from La Quinta Rosa - is an excellent fish restaurant serving liocal dishes, together with a few meat options. Silogia, the restaurant in La Quinta Rosa provided us with the best meal of the holiday.

Always avoided Tenerife, but found walking the quiet trails in the National Parks to be an excellent holiday in March

We think Inntravel are the best option out of all the walking holiday companies, and were very pleased with this visit to the mountainous regions of the island . Hotels and walks were perfect and we were blessed with fabulous weather in March - a lot of it above the clouds, in Vilaflor and on numerous walks.

Both the walking and the driving routes offered memorable experiences of the spectacular volcanic landscape and its extraordinary vegetation.

The Teno mountains and the Teide walks were a great contrast and spectacular in their own way.

We would emphasize the need to take a packed lunch and plenty of water especially for the La Laguna walks

We visited Tenerife for the first time with our 18-year-old daughter before A levels and were all completely bowled over by the beauty, spectacular scenery and world-class walking. The walk from Afur to Taganana is one of the most spectacular walks I've ever done and my husband and daughter loved the Teno Alto Trail. It is NOT for vertigo sufferers so I walked as far as I could and retraced my steps. The drive from La Laguna to Vilaflor brings you to the Teide national park. The caldera and volcanic landscape beneath Mount Teide is breathtaking - like the surface of Mars - and it was good to approach from the north as it's less busy. The Pizzeria Rugantino in Garachico actually lived up to all the hype - best pizza ever - and the food and cafes were great throughout. We all loved this holiday and plan to return ASAP so as to do all the walks and sightseeing we didn't get to this time.

This was our first organised walking holiday and our first visit to Tenerife and we were really impressed with both. We thought the scenery on all the walks was stunning - in the Anaga and Teno mountains because of the amazing landscape and lush vegetation, and around Vilaflor and Mount Teide because of the extraordinary landscapes. We were unlucky with the weather which affected the route past Mount Teide (blocked because of snow) but we were able to get up there on our way from Vilaflor to Garachico. We were glad to have extended the holiday for a couple of extra days which enable us to include the town walks and discovery drives along with all the walks (apart from walk 2). We thought the locations were really well chosen, and gave us a great introduction to Tenerife landscape and history, and all the hotels were very comfortable and welcoming.

Overall a good holiday - but don't go North for the sun!

What an absolute delight to discover these beautiful areas of Tenerife. Varied scenery, a variety of stunning walks, and some truly amazing vistas. 

This was a great trip and took us to places in Tenerife that we might not have discovered independently. The variety of landscape and climate in the different parts of the island was amazing: the tropical northern mountains, lovely southern pine forests, otherworldly volcanic landscapes and beautiful wild coastline all combined to provide a wonderfully varied holiday. We also enjoyed the variety of places we stayed in: colonial city, mountain forest village and pretty seaside town. All the hotels were friendly and comfortable in interesting buildings with excellent facilities. The walking was also varied and interesting - just challenging enough. All in all a delightful experience we would highly recommend to anyone.  

We very much appreciated that the holiday covered 3 distinct and different areas and microclimates within a short distance and thought the holiday had been very well planned and thought through.  We felt very well supported by the information and planning from Inntravel and were lucky to be there for the night before 12th night, with parades and celebrations which we had not expected.  We did book at short notice, and Inntravel were very efficient and prompt at dealing with the booking, which impressed us.

Great way to discover Tenerife away from the crowds. It was good to have the freedom of the hire car and the options of different walks and drives. The three areas visited were each different and interesting in their own way.

Highlight was the Teno Alto walk - spectacular on a sunny day but very tough start. The Garachico walk on the lava trail was also great once you got up there. Again weather was perfect. Not sure I would bother with the second half of the wine tour walk. I think you can shorten it and stay in the tree line. As we missed the first walk due to no parking available you must tell people to get there early. We wasted a full day because of this - 25% of our walking days!

The holiday was very varied & interesting, there were more recommendations than there was time to do but it was nice to be able to choose according to the weather. We did not feel we were on an island where mass tourism is considerable. Instead we found history & culture, a look into the lives of the people who lived & farmed the land many years ago & great diversity of landscape to walk through. The walks were a challenge but were  accurately described. Likewise the driving. We very much enjoyed the La Laguna Gran & La Quinta Rioja hotels, which are a pleasure to stay at. 

We enjoyed everything about our holiday. The hotel pool at la Laguna was too cold to swim in, but there were beautiful views from the roof tops. There were so many suggestions from Inntravel that we didn’t have the time to see and do everything, the information sent to us in the pack was amazing. We loved especially Hotel San Roque, It is a wonderful hotel to stay in. A special treat. We loved the holiday so much we are thinking of returning next year. Inntravel arranged everything so well for us. Thank you.

This was our first visit to the Canary Islands and so we weren't quite sure what to expect of the landscape and the walking. This holiday lists ten walks and two driving tours. We added an extra four nights spread across all three locations to give us flexibility in terms of selecting walks and seeing Tenerife more widely. We would recommend at least some extra nights to take advantage of the choice and to allow for the time taken to transfer between the three locations. We enjoyed all our walks but our favourites were Afur to Taganana from La Laguna and Teno Alto Circular from Garachico. Both of these are challenging, but the first is especially so since it falls near the beginning of the holiday. We were unlucky in that a tropical storm settled over the Canary Islands the day we transferred from La Laguna to Vilaflor which confined us to our hotel for most of two days and limited us to a single walk, Roques de Garcia, around el Teide. The hotels are all well chosen. Our particular favourite was the San Roque in Garachico, well worth the upgrade. Both La Laguna and Garachico have a wide range of good restaurants easily accessible from the hotels. We thought given the quality of the food the restaurants provided very good value for money both compared with the UK and the Costa Brava which we visited recently on another Inntravel holiday. This holiday more than met our expectations and we would certainly recommend it.

We appreciated the flexibility offered by having the car and the option of town walks on travel days. 

This was an excellent holiday. Although we were unable to stay at La Laguna, the hire car meant that we were able to explore the North of the island from our first base in Vilaflor, and we were very glad to have seen it. We loved the Alpine atmosphere and situation of Hotel Vilalba, where we had a nice large room with a balcony. The food was excellent and the portions extremely generous. There was a lot of mid-level cloud around the island during our stay but we were able to get above this into glorious sunshine around Mount Teide, where we did a couple of excellent walks: Walk 6 from the notes and a more level out-and-back one (GR 131 Rura de las Canadas) from the Parador de las Canadas del Teide towards El Portillo - a good leg-stretcher!

Garachico was a complete change, and has its own special charm. We loved La Quinta Roja and, although we had quite a modest room overlooking the street at the back, the tranquil central riad-like courtyard with its trees and fountain more than made up for this. We ate in the hotel restaurant the first night and it was very nice, though pricey. Several of the recommended restaurants are, we discovered, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. We walked some, though not all, of Walk 9 - the Baracan ridge is spectacular - and we did a very nice, fairly easy circular walk at Las Arenas Negras, which was recommended by the hotel.

The car hire was extremely straightforward and we thoroughly enjoyed our week. Thank you!

This holiday was a great introduction to the beauty of Tenerife, well away from the crowds on the south-west coast. We enjoyed the wonderful views from the cliffs on the Afur to Taganano walk, and we had the most amazing drive down the spine of the island to Vilaflor, with great views of Mt Teide. We had booked our places on the Teide cable car online in advance (very easy) but sadly the wind was too strong and the cable car was closed on our appointed day, however the notification about the closure and the subsequent refund was all very customer-friendly and easy. We thoroughly enjoyed the two big walks in the Teno Alto, with the most stunning views, but be aware the Los Silos Circuit really is quite a long day! We booked several restaurants in advance of our trip (some have an unusual pattern of closed days in the week) and we would particularly recommend the Taberna Ossuna in La Laguna, and Aristides Fish Restaurant and the Mirador de Garachico in the centre of the village of Garachico. Duly warned by Inntravel not to leave our luggage in the car unattended, we left our bags at the last hotel after checking out, and had the chance to explore the very pretty town of La Orotava on our last day as our flight was not until the evening.

Wonderful mountain hiking in dramatic scenery in a variety of terrains, amongst friendly people. Be prepared for climbs, some of which are long and steep.

The holiday was excellent - the choice of the three towns with such contrasting scenery and varied walks was spot on. The walking is quite challenging but there is always another spectacular view to spur you on up the hill! The accommodation was very good in all locations - we particularly enjoyed the Quinta Roja in Garachico and the helpful advice and friendly welcome from Paloma and her team. We had some very good meals but would particularly recommend in La Laguna 'Guyadil' and 'La Bodegan Tocuyo' (authentic tapas and full of locals); in Garachico 'Silogia' in the Quinta Roja,  'Rugantino' (fabulous pizzas but only open on Friday/Saturday), 'Le Mirador' and La Taskita. Our favourite walks were the Teno Alto in Garachico and Afur to Taganana from La Laguna with its fabulous coastal section. The Inntravel organisation was, as always, excellent. 

The hotels and countryside on the holiday are excellent. We were unlucky with the weather (end of February ) and had rain and cloud most days. The semi tropical plants, cacti and succulents on mountain sides are marvellous. The coastline and sea is wild and magnificent. Some of the walking is tough - a lot of ascents and descents and we were glad to have walking poles. However good walking shoes were fine - boots are not essential.

We really enjoyed this walking holiday. All selected hotels were very comfortable and quiet. We loved San Cristobal de La Laguna, it is a beautiful town. We also enjoyed all walks (suggested walks were good) and we found our own walks as well. It was very thoughtful to book dinners at Villalba.I believe we will use Inntravel again in the future.

This was our first holiday with Inntravel and we were very happy with the overall experience. The chosen walks were fantastic and we enjoyed every one of them. The hotels were well chosen and on the whole, very accommodating.

We loved being in the rural parts of Tenerife, without a tower block in sight. We enjoyed the 3 different regions and added an extra night in each which I would thoroughly recommend.

We enjoyed our holiday 'of contrasts'! All the information and arrangements were excellently detailed and the hotels very characterful. The natural scenery in parts of Tenerife is wonderful compared to the overdeveloped tourist areas! We were amazed by Mount Teide landscape and also loved Garachico and area. Would also recommend Tasca Faracho in La Laguna for excellent food.

A chance to see the best side of Tenerife away from the tourist ghettos.

Great holiday.  Loved the walking.  Amazing scenery.  Hotels well selected, espsecially San Roque, which we loved, and Vilaflor was great if quirky!

This was exactly the type of holiday that we have come to expect from Inntravel with excellent accommodation and idyllic locations to explore.

The holiday was so much better than expected. On our last day we decided to go cycling rather than walking. Paloma at La Quinta Roja put us in touch with a local cycle hire business from which we rented Mountain eBikes. The man there who was very nice and helpful suggested a route which turned out to be spectacular and we had a wonderful day. I think this is something that you might suggest to your customers as a worthwhile alternative. 

The holiday highlight was the lovely towns in Tenerife where the holiday is based, which are off the normal tourist track and we would love to visit again.

We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the delights of Northern Tenerife. We added an extra night in each of the three locations which allowed us to do 2 of the suggested walks in each area which we think made the most of the holiday. Otherwise, you would only be able to do 1 walk in each area before moving on the next day. The three areas, La Laguna, Villaflor + Garachico, were all interestingly different and the walks were in varying habitat. Also, although highlighted as possibly vertiginous, we didn't find any of the walks particularly scary but there are lots of ascents which can be quite hard work in the sun. However, some of the walking notes could do with being updated - we found that some directions weren't very clear and some paths had been closed off or diverted. Food in each place was generally delicious and three restaurants worthy of mention were La Tasca de Los Patos & El Jinete sin Cabeza in La Laguna and Candelaria in Garachico.
