The Picos de Europa

Asturias – where the mountains meet the sea
One of the holiday’s greatest features is the opportunity to stay in authentic Asturian casonas – atmospheric village houses offering delicious traditional cooking, charming accommodation and a genuine welcome in inspirational surroundings.

Hotel Picos de Europa (3*), Arenas de Cabrales

Meal arrangements: breakfast, plus dinner on first night

Hotel Picos de Europa
Located in the centre of Arenas de Cabrales, a small mountain town with a selection of restaurants, this is a comfortable, family-run hotel complete with a garden, a terrace and an outdoor pool (usually open from mid-June to mid-September).

Portiella del Llosu (rural house), Pandiello

Meal arrangements: dinner & breakfast

Portiella del Llosu
You will be welcomed to this charming and traditional rural house by hosts José and Mari Vi. Set in the heart of Pandiello, a typical Asturian working village, the house boasts impressive views of the Picos de Europa. On warm evenings you can relax on the small grassy terrace. There are just five bedrooms, all with double beds. José is an accomplished cook and his food is regularly singled out for praise by Inntravel guests.

Hotel Rexacu (country hotel), Bobia

Meal arrangements: dinner & breakfast

Hotel Rexacu
A warm welcome from hosts David and Lola awaits you at their homely hotel. The restaurant is excellent, and you can relax after dinner in the comfortable lounge. The bedrooms are modern and spacious and an upgrade is available to a larger room with a seating area and impressive views.

Montaña Magica (rural house), near Vibaño

Meal arrangements: dinner & breakfast

Montaña Magica
Montaña Mágica (Magic Mountain) is a painstaking reconstruction of an old Asturian farmstead, which took hosts, Carlos and Pilar, several years to complete. It is set in a peaceful location with spectacular views from the gardens across most of the Picos de Europa range. In the hotel, there are two large lounges, one of which contains an interesting display of maps of the area. The house stands in the centre of a huge estate and working farm, throughout which walking routes have been waymarked. You can even climb a small hill not far from the hotel for views of the sea.

Posada de Babel (3*), La Pereda

Meal arrangements: dinner & breakfast

Posada de Babel
Lucas and Blanca’s posada is a superb hotel with a restaurant to match. It is set in a splendid rural location between the coast and mountains, surrounded by birch and chestnut trees and a wealth of flowering shrubs. Bedrooms are modern and light (we highly recommend upgrading to a spacious and stylish suite), and there is a large drawing room with a fireplace and windows overlooking the garden.

Hotel Hoyuela (4*), Santander

Optional add-on
Meal arrangements: breakfast only

Hotel Hoyuela
Located near the extensive sands and promenade of the glorious Sandinero Beach, just a short walk from the lighthouse, the elegant, Belle Epoque-style Hoyuela makes an excellent base. There are 55 rooms with all modern amenities (including free wifi) and breakfast is included in your stay. There is a snack bar, lounge, restaurant and private garage.
