A very enjoyable (though very hot) holiday. Highlights included visiting Mahon and the historical sites, and seeing a hoopoe and torotoises in the hotel grounds! We did not hire a car and found it easy to get around with taxis and buses: given the problems we saw some people have in finding parking spaces by the sea we were quite glad not to have the extra worry. Because of this we missed one recommended walk, and split the other (from the hotel) into two, changing the second half slightly to walk all the way into Mahon via Es Castell and get a bus back. We also got a bus to Ciudadella which gave us a chance to enjoy a journey across the whole island and walked down to the coast a couple of times (about 20 minutes each way) to bathe in the sea, although the hotel pool was also good and very quiet.
Food was excellent, especially in the hotel, although breakfast is leisurely, so do not plan on early starts!
This was a very enjoyable and relaxing short break (we extended it to 5 nights). Hotel Alcaufar Vell is delightful and very historic. The food was excellent and the staff went out of their way to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. There is a very nice secluded outdoor pool area, surrounded by grass. We did both the suggested walks, as well as one along the coast to Punta Prima and back. On one day we explored the island (which we had never visited before) and spent several hours in Ciutadella. On our last day we spent some time in Mao (Mahon). Breakfast (served from 9 till 12) was excellent and seemingly limitless. We dined in the hotel twice and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. On the other evenings we followed the recommendations of the hotel receptionist and went to La Rueda, a traditional Menorcan restaurant in nearby Sant Luis, and Quita Penas just outside Benibequer Vell. QP is a converted barn with eclectic and rather bohemian decor. The food is healthy and varied and we enjoyed it so much we went back the following night! The island is small and everything was really convenient. Probably not a holiday for serious walkers but perfect for more laid-back ones like us.

It was unusually hot for early July, so we didn't do the walks recommended, but were glad of the car to explore the island. We had booked an extra night, and were glad we had the extra time. The fact that we didn't do the walks, didn't detract in any way from our enjoyment of the holiday. The hotel recommended a nearby fish restaurant called Alma Salama in Binibequer. Run by locals, the best fresh fish, non-touristy. Outstanding paella with delicious Menorca white wine. We loved both Mao and Cuitadella. Found an amazing tiny restaurant in Cuitadella, run by Menorcan twins, one kitchen, one front of house. The menu was 22 euros using only local ingredients, worthy of a Michelin listing, even a star. Highly recommend. We found Es Castel harbourside lovely for a drink and people watching, but very touristy and had a bad meal there! We enjoyed a long lunch at the Bodega Binifadet before our late flight home.

We were not on a walking holiday although we did do plenty of walking. The accommodation was lovely and all the staff very friendly. Breakfast was particularly good.
We had a fabulous holiday and loved all of the places we stayed. Would definitely recommend travelling by ferry between the islands. It was all very straight forward. Hope to return to most of the places we walked to in the future.

I had booked a retreat on Menorca and wanted to extend my time there so I could unwind and see a little of the island. I asked Inntravel to arrange my flights and added some days to my time away. Menorca itself is so beautiful and quiet. I think May must be the best time of year to go if you don't like crowds of people. Even the city was quiet but lovely, I would go back there in an instant....
