Collioure to Cadaqués

A beautiful, and challenging, week of walking through a lovely, colourful part of the world. Great food, sunshine everyday and minimal rain in October, we really enjoyed it. Evening meals at Hotel Catalan and with Hotel Goleta were wonderful and the last hotel, Playa Sol a real highlight.

Loved the included meals as they were of such high quality. Receptionist at Hotel Playa Sol helped me to get a refund as I'd accidentally booked the Dali Museum not the house. She also managed to book the Dali house which I was so pleased about as that was one of highlights of the trip. Particularly enjoyed the breakfasts at La Casa Pairal and Hôtel Catalan - lovely selection of fruits, yogurts and homemade purées.

This is a fantastic trip that gives a real sense of journey between France and Spain, allowing a delicious exploration of the similarities and differences. Part of the route takes you in the footsteps of those escaping persecution from the Spanish Civil War and WW2 (in both directions) which provides a real sense of fairly recent history. We did all the walks (including all the options) and loved every minute of them. They were a good length, and mostly challenging enough, leaving time to grab a cold beer before arriving at your hotel. Day 1 was a good introduction and a lovely walk on easy paths, the descent back into Collioure steep but an easy well maintained path. There are some nice picnic spots close to the Moulin before re-entering the town, a perfect place to wait under the shade of an olive tree until the art musuem opens (very worth a visit). Of the two suggested restaurants, Casa Leon is the best, really lovely food (including a perfect steak if you don't fancy fish). Day 2 is a beautiful walk, with lovely views. There is one very short section (literally a few steps) on a steep slope with a rope but this was totally OK despite a fear of heights and there are plenty of other walkers literally skipping over this bit so nothing to fear. Day 3 was the easiest walk and only a couple of hours, leaving plenty of time to also do option B and have a late lunch. Sadly the garden was closed whilst we were there and checking the website indicates it may have to be pre-booked. Plenty of welcoming sea front bars for a snack and beer. Day 4 was another great walk and we took option B around the headland. The optional route arond the Colera headland on the Cami de Ronda is an extremely narrow, cliff edge footpath with very short but steep ascents/descents which isn't mentioned in the notes and perhaps not the best if you have vertigo although once you get to the top of the headland the rest of the walk is fine and the walk along the base of the cliff was easy, fun and actually very charming and should definitely not to be missed. Els Pescadors, the restaurant were you have your evening meal is astounding, easily the best meal. Day 5, across Cap de Creus was an easy route on well maintained paths with spectacular views. The Day 6 walk around the lighthouse was another fantastic walk, especially if you combine it with lunch at the restaurant (easy to book in advance online). The restaurant does a great curry if you are after a little spice and the return loop is perfectly do-able after a long lunch with a couple of beers! Casa Nun is another good place to eat, again, easy to book online and lovely friendly service. The museum at Cadaques is worth a visit if you've already been to Dali's house and there is also an interesting exhibition at the lighthouse at Cap de Creus (mostly in Catalan/Spanish). The stand out hotels are the first and last, both with pools, which is great after a days walking. We took the slow train from Barcelona to Cerbere to get to the start at Collioure which is very cheap and both Portbou and Cerbere stations are worth seeing as part of the trip. Another really wonderful trip from Inntravel.

There were many personal highlights: the quality of the hotels, especially La Casa Pairal; the wonderful scenery; exploring Collioure and Cadaques; the art heritage; local restaurants, especially Casa Leon in Collioure.

We very much enjoyed this holiday. The scenery is fantastic and the walks suitably challenging for a coastal walk, perhaps being more grade 2 rather than grade 1. Collioure and Cadaques are both extremely interesting and we were glad that we took the advice of other reviewers to add an extra night in both places. The hotels in Collioure and Cadaques are also superb, and it is definitely worth paying for a sea view room at the Hotel Playa Sol in Cadaques. We were also glad that we took the advice to book the Dali House in advance as this museum is fascinating. As is to be expected, the Inntravel walking notes were very good, although, if you are more comfortable using walking poles, we would suggest taking them on all the walks. Our only slight negative was that we found the Hotel La Goleta, where we had a very small room, disappointing. However, overall an excellent trip.

Overall this was a stunningly good walk. For 10 days we were either in sight or sound of the sea and, sometimes, both at once. Living without the sea and having been brought up with it, this was a dream fulfilled. We only did the 3 essential walks (plus the Banyuls old town one) and used other days to relax, read and explore the lovely places we were staying in. The heat was a bit of a disincentive to extra walking. We also enjoyed a boat trip at Cadaques. There were numerous examples of intelligent helpfulness. The staff at La Casa booked restaurants for us. The receptionist at Catalan, despite being so busy, put a new battery in our safe when it wouldn't work and suggested the basic menu was quite adequate. The French taxis were very good, prompt or early, which suits an anxious traveller. The Spanish taxis were 6 and 12 minutes late. The Hotel Catalan grew on me. They had a stunning wine list and the Collioure wine caught my eye. I also liked the cheese which was served before the pudding.  It is at risk of becoming a transit camp for large walking parties who spend one night and breakfast like locusts. The final walk to Cadaques was the best and the easiest and we have done many like it, with you and on our own. At the highest point on the last walk we could see right back to beyond Collioure. We very much enjoyed both Le Comptoir and Casa Leon in Collioure. We did struggle with Catalan food and the volume of food given to us far exceeded what we could comfortably eat. The walk from Collioure was tough and, although there were clues in the notes, it didn't quite cover the plight of a 71 and 78, neither of whom are tall and have long strides. Negotiating the steep drops and hikes up was such that it took us six hours (at the slower one’s speed). The lack of picnics didn't help when we'd underestimated the time so drastically. Interestingly, we achieved the longest walk, to Cadaques, in almost your time estimate so that suggests this first walk was skewed in some way. We guess your route finders are considerably younger and taller than us! I would contemplate doing the walk another time. The weather was exceptional though and I wonder how I would feel with a few days of low cloud and rain. The train from Collioure to Banyuls would be an option for one of us! 

Highlights were the hotel in Collioure, the meal in Llança, multiple stunning views, the views from our balconies in Hotel Catalan and Hotel Playa Sol. What a fabulous holiday! We will definitely use Inntravel again. 

Another great Inntravel holiday. Started with two nights in Girona which was a great way to start the holiday. Would definitely recommend getting a taxi to the Hotel Historic as it is in the Historic Quarter and so is uphill and streets are cobbled. Quite a foodie city. Would recommend the restaurant Dit I Fet which is not far from the hotel.
For the main part of the holiday we enjoyed the contrast between France and Spain. Our favourite locations were Collioure and Cadaques. Both buzzy places and hotels were good in terms of service and location. We had an extra night at the Playa Sol in Cadaques which we would recommend and gave us the opportunity to visit the Dali House. Restaurant recommendations - Casa Leon in Collioure and Es Raco in Cadaques. Would suggest booking both. Walking was good - more Grade 2 than Grade 1 with some challenging sections especially on Day 4 but routes were all easy to follow. Unusually we had two other Inntravel couples on the same itinerary so we all did the Day 5 route down to Cadaques together which was really nice and social. It was also our favourite walk of the week - reasonably long but not too many ups and downs and great views all the way. 

The scenery is spectacular, it's a beautiful unspoilt and fascinating area for art, history and  geography, with great wine and food.

This was one of the best walking holidays we've had. The area is wonderful, the walks are challenging in places but manageable, the accommodation is of a high standard and the notes and background information provided are excellent.

We particularly enjoyed being able to visit two countries in one trip. The first and last hotels were rather special. We were lucky enough to be in Collioure as they were setting up for their 'Festival de Fanfare' celebrations. One of the narrow streets was set up with lots of bunting plus end-to-end real turf on the ground to celebrate the famous 'dejeuner sur l'herbe' painting.

As it was harvest time, we enjoyed seeing the grapes being picked by hand as we walked along the terraces around Collioure and Banyuls.

Our favourite walks were probably day 4 (with the option 'B' coastal extension) and day 6 (to the lighthouse at Cap Creus).

We enjoyed visiting the unique Dali house at Port Lligat and also managed to visit his museum at Figueres on the way home.

We enjoyed this holiday, our seventh with Inntravel. The walks were good with excellent views. Walking poles proved useful on occasions. The maps were useful to confirm our location against the walking notes. All the hotels were very good or better. Breakfasts and included dinners were excellent. We enjoyed eating (pre-booked all from home) at Casa Leon (Collioure), Es Balconet and La Sirena (Cadaques). We pre-booked and enjoyed a visit to Dali's house, spending longer than we expected.

This trip  - our 52nd with Inntravel - was well up to the standards we have come to expect: beautiful locations and suitably challenging walks, with the prospect of a good quality hotel at the end of the day, and, where provided, a very enjoyable dinner. 

Our highlights included the charm of Collioure; the spectacular walking at Cap Béar on Day 2,and from Coll de Frare, south of Port Bou at the start of Day 4; the elegant dinners at the Hotel Catalan, Banyuls, and the Maillol walk in Banyuls old town; and our return to Cadaqués 17 years after we had stayed there, also at the end of an Inntravel walk.                   

Overall, a brillant holiday. Views were stunning. Walks were just right. Shame about the taxi on day 1.

Excellent trip with excellent hotels and food. Quite hard walking (especially in hot sun) so I'd grade it as 'moderate' rather than 'easy/moderate'. 

A good week of walking with beautiful views of the Mediterranean, well written guidance notes and short enough walks that we got to the next place early afternoon on most days so could sit on the beach and have a swim in the sea which was lovely, all the hotels with included dinners did well managing with our dietary issues (one gluten free and one no seafood) though when we had to find our own dinners finding resturants that did anything other than seafood was hard, but not impossible! One worth recommending is the excellent Lebanese restaurant in Cadaques - El Barroco, which does good fish dishes as well as excellent Lebanese mezze etc. We booked in advance to see the Dali house and it was well worth it and would have been impossible to get tickets on the day.

Another lovely Inntravel experience, connections and transfers spot on, well documented walks and notes, and some exceptionally lovely hotels and some excellent restaurants close by. The walks are exactly as defined (level 1/2), and all enjoyable. As they tend to be stony decent boots are a must and walking sticks if you need them. Be aware that museums, forts and gardens had quirky and poorly communicated opening times: whatever their web sites said we arrived at a couple of places that were shut anyway. Dali's house (which is wonderful) definitely needs advance booking. Overall a great holiday.

We really enjoyed the walks, challenging in places but doable and not too lengthy. The maps and details provided by Inntravel were brilliantly detailed.  Our favourite walks were day 3 and day 5. Both had really great views. Day 2 took us longer than expected as the contours at the begining of the walk were a constant up & down. We were told by our taxi driver when we first arrived in Collioure that this part of france/spain is known as the windy coast and he was right as we expereinced winds of 27 mph to 48 mph over several days. The hotel in Collioure and Cadaques were excellent in both their accommodation, location, welcome, service & breakfasts. Both were beautiful places to walk around and there were plenty of cafe's and restaurants to choose from. The food at Cafe Leon in Colliour was excellent and we enjoyed the food & atmousphere at La Sienna in Cadaques. Also El Balconet for its fish. You do need to book up places to eat in advance though. The Banyuls Hotel was also very good, not as stylish but the food, welcome & service more than made up for it. However, the Hotel in Llanca, was not up to the same standards as the others. The welcome was poor, the room incredibly small. Such a shame as the associated restaurant gave us a great welcome and the food was fabulous. We did manage to visit Dali's house in Cadaques, but only because the hotel phoned up on our behalf. we couldn't book tickets on line, they were sold out - despite trying several weeks in advance. Apparently, they don't open up spaces online if someone cancels - so if you can't book try the hotel or go in person. We added on two days in Girona at the end of the holiday, it was their annual flower festival and hundreds of people descended on the medieval part of the city. A really interesting place to visit, we stayed at the Hotel Historic which was really nice, a great welcome & service. Would definitely recommend.

This is a wonderful walking holiday, the wayfinding generally is clear. The routes are attractive and the notes accurate, subject to one howling error on Day 3, Option A, where they are simply wrong. See above. You need to address this as soon as possible, we suggest. The hotels at the start and finish are particularly good, attractive and distinctive. Unusually for a countrified walk, this one has rich associations: Matisse, Derain and Mackintosh, famous Republicans fleeing the fascists in Spain (Machado and others), and then people fleeing in the other direction, from the Nazis (poor Walter Benjamin). The whole concludes with the potential visit to Dali's house, which needs advance booking. We are not fans, but some people may find it interesting. Compartir in Cadaques is very good and worth booking in advance if you want to eat there. We are veteran Inntravellers and this one rates pretty highly. 

The restaurants we selected in Collioure were wonderful. Our cutting the trip and going to Barcelona was very smart. 

We chose this holiday as a sequel to the Costa Brava one further south that we did in the springtime (and somewhat preferred -- but these could easily be combined for one long holiday walking along the coast). All water and light, it is no wonder this landscape has attracted artists over the centuries. In addition to the Picasso museum in Barcelona, we enjoyed walking in the artists' neighborhood in Collioure (Matisse, Derain) and visiting the exceptional Dali house at the end of the holiday. Also on the list of non-walking attractions is the aquarium (biodiversariam) in Banyuls. The botanical gardens are closed in the off season, but the walk up into the vineyards there is easy and beautiful.

We also chose this holiday for the opportunity to swim in the sea along the way, and were not disappointed. In mid October the water temperature was around 20C, quite swimmable and a welcome relief during hot walks. On one day (day 2) I swam three times in rocky little coves and beaches along the way. This was partly in order to cool down, as the air temperatures were in the mid 20's, too hot for our walking standards, and it was also quite humid. The Mediterranean waters are clear and fresh in general, although the beaches on the way to Llança and at Cadaqués a little murkier than the others. The last day we did not do the long hike out to the lighthouse, so we had time to wander around, and found a good swimming spot a little north of the Dali house at Platja s'Alqueria. In addition, three of the hotels had pools -- and the Catalan and the Playa Sol had pools large enough to have a proper lap swim for those inclined. The walks were good -- vigorous enough and scenic -- particularly the inland Day 5 walk but also the vineyards and the lovely vistas along the coast. The only difficulty other than the heat was that several of the trails had loose rock underfoot (what the notes call "slithery").  I was glad to have poles and light hiking boots.

As always, Inntravel holidays offer a perfect balance of catered and independent: providing hotels and transfers, and some meals (excellent breakfasts throughout), along with maps and walking notes and ideas to take or leave, so that it is possible to have the freedom of one's own journey (or a day off) with all the essentials very well provided for. For lunches in that part of the world you can't go wrong with bread, cheese, and fruit. And we had some excellent red wines, especially in France.

We were delighted with all aspects of the trip.

Fifth InnTravel trip exceeded my expectations. 

A lovely walking holiday, and all the hotels were good or excellent.  The breakfasts were very good in all the hotels, and all the staff were friendly and helpful.    We did go to Le Neptune in Collioure, but were only impressed with the view.  We found the food rather pretentious.  Restaurant Casa Leon was excellent, informal and buzzing.    Both need to be booked.   Towards the end of the trip we went for Tapas rather than restaurants, heading for the busiest places, and were never disappointed.  The towns were beautiful, with the exception of Banyuls, but the modern aquarium is well worth a visit.  

We took a 'sailing' boat trip along the coast from Cadaques with Charter Sant Isidre (leaflet in hotel) which lasted about 2 hours and was very enjoyable.

Wonderful holiday. The arrangements went exactly to plan. Lovely accommodation, with fabulous food and wine along the way. We were very lucky with the weather, and with the exception of one afternoon/evening had clear blue skies which were perfect for walking. The routes are well-planned. I found the coastal paths a bit tricky underfoot but managed with the aid of my walking poles. The inland routes were much easier and hence more enjoyable for me. For re-assurance, I'd recommend downloading the provided digital routes onto your mobile phone (I use the OsmAnd app), to supplement the written notes/map. 

The sea views along the way are incredible. The water is very clear and there is a lot of snorkelling and diving in the area, so we really enjoyed our visit to the Biodiversarium in Banyuls so we could see the local marine life. The Botanical Gardens are closed at lunchtime, so plan your Day 3 walk accordingly. 

We had an extra night at Cadaques and would have been happy to have had a couple more. The hotel is lovely, with plenty of restaurants and bars close by. There are lots of coves to explore and swim in. Don't miss the Dali house at Port Lligat, but be sure to book ahead. 

We also added on 3 nights in Girona, which gave us plenty of time to explore the city and also to do a day trip, by train, to Figueres to visit the Dali Museum (you need to book ahead for this too).

Finally, on a practical note....All the hotels had hair dryers in the rooms. None had irons and only the first hotel had a kettle, so take your own if you like a brew!

Barcelona was wonderful and your introductory walking tour was very helpful.  Hotel Colón was perfect.  Hiking from Collioure to Cadaqués was an unforgettable experience, and not bad exercise either.

A lovely walking holiday in a beautiful area of France and Spain. It was lovely to have more than one night in most places to explore the surrounding countryside and villages, as well as enjoy the delicious food on offer along the coast.

The walks provided sufficient challenge without being too strenuous and made us feel like we’d earned our supper at the end of each day!

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, our first with Inntravel.  The walks were just the right length with plenty of interest and very well described.    To be able to take a dip in a quiet cove when the going was a bit hot and dusty was magical.   Each hotel had something to recommend it, and the meals provided were excellent.  

We had a really lovely holiday doing the "Collioure to Cadaqués" walk. The organisation was superb, and once on the holiday, unintrusive. The walk is beautiful and the accommodation very comfortable. There is a long walk up and down between the hotel in Banyuls and the town (including 200 steps). This didn't put us off exploring the town though.

This was our first holiday with Inntravel following a recommendation from friends, and we will certainly do another as soon as possible.

Directions were very good. We found the level of difficulty as expected , though some days were easier or slightly more difficult than expected as our knees notice the ups and downs on the coast more (Days 2 and3), whereas distance on a good path is still easy (Day 5)! However the distances are not great here and none of the walking is challenging. We enjoyed the tiny section at the water's edge which felt like a little taste of "coasteering" for the over 60s. One tiny clamber onto a rock only! Be sure to take swimming things - we enjoyed two mid-walk swims.

We very much enjoyed Llança and Cadaqués which were for us the highlight (though we know and love Collioure of old). Thank you for the advice to book the Dali house which is essential. Make sure you book the right thing - a friend warned me she had accidentally booked the Dali museum in another location! We also booked the lighthouse restaurant and would highly recommend this - probably the most enjoyable meal of our trip. Thank you Inntravel - wish we'd found you sooner!

We loved Collioure and Cadaques and I especially loved the pretty walks in Collioure. I didn't like the landscape or terrain for the rest of the walk and was the most disappointing of all the walks we have done. 

We both loved the holiday, me more so than my cousin who found the walks challenging, especially the second walk. Our favourite one was the 13k penultimate walk, we both loved it for it's views and fauna. We had amazing weather too, our hotels were all good but two stood out the first one in Colliure and the last one in Cadaqués, both superb, but we wished they had done dinner too.

Coastal walks particularly walk to Llanca and walk to Cadaqués.  The latter walk as it started in Port De Selva , notes say get snacks before start but cafes etc where we dropped off. Also Portbou may have been interesting stop as a point of interest Walter Benjamin his historic figure and is featured there and in Banyules, might be worth updating trip notes to include a paragraph.  

All the arrangements worked perfectly for us and the people we met in terms of staff/taxis went out of their way to help and let us enjoy. If fit and well (and we're both 61) the walks as written are not difficult on the whole (bits of necky coastal paths/paddling maybe as well) they can all be readily extended/made more adventurous as you choose - subject to weather etc. Signposts and marking are typically very good.

This was a great walk, covering varied terrains along a beautiful coastline. 

The only recommendation I would make for change is to re-word the advice on (I think) day 3, where you suggested that people with vertigo may wish to take a shorter road walk instead of the coastline one. I suffer from vertigo, so hesitated before I tooke the coastal path, but I'm so glad I did....it was beautiful and I would have missed out on a fabulous walk if I'd gone along the road. I'm not quite sure why you make this recommendation at this point - there were no sheer drops or high narrow ledges and it seemed no more challenging to people who suffer from vertigo than the other days. Maybe re-word the advice to say that there are no sheer drops so that you don't put people like me off.

It's an interesting combination of hotels and walks in an historical area of France/Spain frequented by the local ramblers. We saw and spoke to serious walkers who were concerned enough to advise us of the up coming weather conditions.(with additional detail to the main TV weather output)

This was a truly wonderful holiday - Collioure and Cadaques were both perfect destinations and the whole trip definitely lived up to expectations which were high. The scenery was great, the walking varied and the welcome in all the hotels was warm. The Hotel Playa Sol in Cadaques is somewhere you could return to year after year and has a wonderful quiet pool area. We did not have a sea view room as they had sold out but loved our room at the back which was also lovely and cool. We chose not to do the walk to the lighthouse at Cap Reus on the last day as it was very hot and instead walked south on the coast to the lighthouse which was beautiful and north around the headland at Cadaques, then also took a boat trip to Cap Reus. We managed to fit in the trip to Dali's house at Port Ligat before leaving on our last morning (having booked before leaving home) which was interesting but slightly unsettling! Our travel arrangements via Gatwick and Barcelona all worked well with the exception of the passport control in Barcelona which took 2 hours to clear so luckily we had built in enough wiggle toom to catch the train to Cerberes and took a taxi into Barcelona Sants station from the airport which cost about 28 euros. Have wanted to go on this trip for a long time since doing the one further south on the Costa Brava 10 years ago which was also lovely. One regret - we should have booked an extra night or two in both Collioure and Cadaques.

Hotels and walks on this holiday were excellent. We particularly enjoyed staying at hotel Casa Parail in Collioure and Playa del Sol in Cadaques. Our favourite restaurant in Collioure was Le Neptune - definitely worth the extra money for the food and the view. The restaurant in LLanca - Les Pescadores - provided excellent service and great food. In Cadaques, our favourite restaurant was El Raco. We found advanced booking for all the restaurants to be essential.

What a wonderful hike! The hiking notes were extremely helpful and accurate. Be sure to bring your trekking poles as the terrain is rough. We enjoyed each hotel, particularly Hotel Playa Sol. We bought tickets to the Salvador Dali House and highly recommend a visit there. Stay an extra day in Cadaques if you can!

Our first holiday abroad in two years did not disappoint. Travelling by rail was trouble-free, relaxing even, and is an option we'll favour for future trips. This was as good a walking holiday as we've had with routes that were challenging enough - particularly given the hot weather - but never an ordeal. Fantastic views, great opportunities to swim, always something of interest to grab the attention. All the stops were enjoyable places to spend time in - with, fittingly, the start and finish of the route being particularly charming destinations. All hotels were fine - some considerably better than that - and their staff notably cheerful and attentive. We've done several holidays of this type with Inntravel and other companies and this holiday was up there with the best of them. Thoroughly recommended.

One of the walks - from Bunyols to Llanca - had an inland detour for high wind/bad weather. We did the detour as we had winds of almost 50mph. The instructions were a bit vague - it would be helpful to have an additional gps for this detour. Also we would like to add that on the final day of our walk from Port de Selva to Cadaques there was both a good cafe and shops to buy food & drink in Pont de Selva where the taxi dropped us. We were there on a friday so there was also a food market in the same square. There is no need to rush round before leaving Llanca - especially as it is an early start and most shops did not open til 9 am. 

Highlights - the Collioure hotel was superb, and well located with the best breakfast of our trip. The hotel in Bunyols less so - and a long way out of the town up a lot of steps. However, despite both the hotel and swimming pool terrace being a bit tired in appearance, the restaurant dinners were superb - we ate from the Terroirs menu - it was very high quality - well up to London standards.

Because Playa Sol was full we arranged our own hotel in Cadaques. It was Hotel Blaumer - just a few minutes from the Playa Sol. Extremely high standard, lovely spacious rooms, pool and garden with an excellent breakfast and efficient services. We would highly recommend it if anyone else is in the same position. 

The Llanca hotel we thought lovely, simple and smallish rooms, but pleasant communal areas, good breakfast and an excellent dinner at the restaurant next to it which the hotel owns.

The Bunyol cellars wine tasting tour at Terre de Templiers is very good but to guarantee an English tour you must phone ahead and book. 

In Cadaques the Dali house is an absolute must see - small tours lasting just over an hour (for approx 8 people in 3 languages). Book at least 2 weeks ahead. 

We would like to add another excellent restaurant to the list in Cadaques - Casa Pilar restaurante - carrer de la miranda, just off the seafront on the way to the Dali house - we had lunch - excellent - almost all fish with a good value menu of the day. We enjoyed it as much as the recommended restaurant Es Balconet.  

Generally the walking routes were good and the notes were accurate. The notes for the last days walk to Cap de Creus implied it was a little too long for a last days walk by suggesting the option of a taxi to the lighthouse and we would agree with that. The notes for that walk were not quite up to the same standard. We noted that there were boat rides from Cadaques beach out to the Cap and beyond, and with prior notice of that it would have been a very good addition to travel by boat rather than a taxi?

Girona: Superb location, loved the position and the hotel structure was unique, the owners had sympathetically created up to date air conditioned rooms within a very old structure. Very good breakfasts in atmospheric surroundings. We loved exploring the narrow and winding streets and walking the old city walls, experiencing breathtaking views.

We used the rail system in Spain and France which are excellent and on time, and you should be aware that there is a regular local train from Cerbere to Colloire which is both inexpensive and quick and is a good alternative to the taxi service which you offer.

I have just recovered from a serious leg injury and this was my first walking holiday since Covid. it was a good choice because it was achievable yet also challenging enough to push me. I optEd out of a couple of walks to rest, but that didn't detract from the holiday. Decided to travel down the slow way by train, with an overnight in Paris and then an extra couple of nights in Collioure. This was a nice place to get into the holiday vibe though you do need to save up for the excellent but pricy restaurants there. Enjoyed the coastal walking and many opportunities to swim in the sea. We had a free day in Banyuls on the Sunday so enjoyed mooching about in the town watching the Sardanas dances. Llanca was disappointing, with few people around and hardly anything open but it was only one night. We upgraded our room in Cadaques and stayed an extra night, worth it for the great view from the balcony. On free day we walked to the opposite side of the bay and along to the Far de Cala Nans (lighthouse) and scrambled down to a beach called Calla as Sambolla whch was the highlight of our trip. Also enjoyed visiting Dali's house at Port Ligat. For journey home we got a taxi to Port Bou and a direct train to Beziers (a nice town for a short stay - visited the 9 Ecluses de Fonseranes) and finally back from there via Paris and Eurostar.

It was a delightful holiday and great to be travelling again and once more experiencing different sights and different cultures. As ever, the hotels were first-rate with Hotel Goleta being just as you describe, small and quirky but absolutely fine for a one night stay. The meal at Els Pescadors was exceptional. 
Thoroughly recommend this holiday and a joy to be experiencing once again the joy of travel with a wide range of opportunities from beautiful Collioure to the delights of Cadaque, from insights into Catalonian history to the Spanish Civil War to swimming in the Mediterranean Sea!

Personal highlight probably Collioure with the extra night good. Cadaques also benefitted from the extra night especially as the hotel was in such a good location. Enjoyed wandering the back streets of Banyuls and the Maillol trail and also the new aquarium there.

The walk around Collioure to Fort St Elme will be remembered - the views just before reaching the fort and from it were magnificent. Well worth the little bit of scrambling down.

Weather and wild flowers magnificent throughout. Took too many warm clothes!

Walks: a good mix and we particularly enjoyed the walk into Cadaques. Lunch on the final day at the Lighthouse is great, allow time for this.

Hotels: we love Casa Parail and the Junior Suite was beautiful including the terrace.

Collioure meals: as you recommended Casa Leon was really good but Le Neptune is really special, we had a wonderful meal there and it's a great spot overlooking the bay.

Cadaques meals: Es Balconet was fab and the staff are so friendly.

This was a lovely holiday with stunning sea views and good paths. The hotels were of a high standard and very welcoming with excellent breakfasts.
