Pisa

Pisa is famous the world over for its incredible leaning tower, but you will discover far more as you wander the city's historic streets. The tower, officially the bell tower of the cathedral, is just one of many works of art and architecture in the city's Piazza del Duomo, also known as the Piazza dei Miracoli ('Square of Miracles') – you will also find the baptistry and the Camposanto (monumental cemetery). The medieval town also includes a number of palaces, and is surrounded by high medieval walls.
You can explore all this and more on foot; Pisa is relatively small and therefore easy to explore. It is also a lively student town, with shows, cultural events and festivals throughout the year which add another dimension to this Renaissance gem.

  • The famous leaning tower & much more
    The most famous sights of Pisa are to be found north of the river at the Campo dei Miracoli, at the end of Via Roma. Here, three astonishing buildings rest on a vivid green lawn: the Baptistery is the largest in Italy, with a beautiful, simple interior; the Duomo (cathedral) has a superb pulpit by Giovanni Pisano; while the third, of course, is the Leaning Tower. The Camposanto (cemetery) and the Museo del Duomo are also well worth a visit. 

    Elsewhere in the city, you'll find several beautiful churches and the S. Matteo National Museum, which houses many Etruscan artefacts and Tuscan paintings
