Holiday information

Granada

The Moors ruled over Granada longer than any other kingdom in Spain – it was their last stronghold, and didn’t fall to the Christians until 1492. Their rule is symbolised by Granada’s star attraction, the iconic Alhambra, a showcase for Moorish architectural flair and craftsmanship. The intricacy of the décor is awe-inspiring, as are the water features of the immaculately laid out gardens.
But there is more to the city than the Alhambra. The Albaicín is Spain’s largest and most characteristic surviving Moorish quarter, with steep cobbled streets lined with whitewashed houses and hidden courtyards shaded by orange and lemon trees, while in the district of Sacromonte the strains of flamenco music can be heard drifting through the streets each evening.

Sightseeing

The key to Inntravel holidays is flexibility. You can start on the day of your choice, and are free to add extra nights.
  • An architectural gem
Nestling below the imposing Sierra Nevada, the Alhambra was the seat of the sultans who ruled over Spain’s last Moorish kingdom and no stay in Granada would be complete without a visit. Admire the far-reaching views from the Torre de la Vela in the Alcazaba (the old defensive fortress); sit for a while in the ornamental gardens of the Generalife listening to the soothing tinkling of the fountains; and marvel at the astonishingly ornate stucco decoration of the three Nazaríes Palaces.

Please note that although the Alhambra is open daily, the Moorish baths are only open Tuesday to Saturday, while the Palacio de Dar-al-Horra, the only other intact Moorish building open to visitors, is only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Notes for a self-guided walking tour included
We include notes for a self-guided walking tour of the Albaicín, the atmospheric district on the other side of the river from the Alhambra where the sultans’ subjects lived. Cobbled streets wind up the hillside from the Moorish baths to the Plaza San Nicolás – which commands the best views of the Alhambra – and eventually lead into Sacromonte, a district characterised by cave dwellings and a strong gypsy culture.
