La Colonnina and Hotel Paradiso were 2 very good 3* hotels in the Cinque Terre, both exceeded expectations. The terrain is really quite difficult with paths and especially steps irregular and poorly maintained - walking poles are helpful. Plus of Cinque Terre is that it is very easy to get around using a combination of trains and ferries, and the views and villages ARE beautiful. We ate lots of delicious seafood [especially in Trattoria Tre Torre in Portovenere]. The only poor meal was at the Agriturismo Buranco in Monterosso - chef more interested in singing karaoke. It was a lovely setting but I would remove from your recommendations. Consequence of ease of access is that the villages were still "rammed" in the last week of September [also apparently in May and June], so to avoid the crowds consider April/Oct. Portovenere much calmer!
As usual a lovely holiday from Inntravel. I wouldn't do it in July though - it was very hot. If you take option B Riomaggiore to Acquasanta then the bus from Acquasanta terminates on the street of Hotel Paradiso - you can walk back up the street to find it on the right. Restaurant Ciak in Montorosso was excellent - the shared tapas starters were amazing - and Trattoria Tre Torri in Portovenere was lovely too. Ristorante Pizzeria IL Timone on the seafront was a rip-off. The historical walk in Genoa was very good and well worth doing.

NB. the climbs out of the villages are steep and rocky so you need to be sure-footed and relatively fit
If your legs are tired then the boat is a must ... you get to see all 5 towns and can get off wherever you want to.

Both hotels were very good with friendly and helpful staff. We are glad that we stayed an extra night at La Colonnina to enable us to walk both options. The five villages are, of course, delightful places to visit but it has to be admitted that the crowds are a problem. Arriving hot and tired in Vernazza in the early afternoon needing an icecream and a drink and place to sit down we discovered that you had to join a long queue to acquire any of them!
try to coordinate your schedule to avoid hiking on the weekend on the popular SVA routes as the Italians also hike these areas on the weekend. We hiked one on a Saturday and even in late October it was very crowded.
It was hot, the walls often started with a 2km climb, but it was worth it. We had a wonderful mother and daughter time, thank you.
As previous holidays, the quality of walking notes and attention to detail of the information pack is very impressive. Really impressed with the service when I had a problem with my flight, even though I booked this myself, especially as it was out of hours. Quality of hotels excellent, with La Collonina especially friendly and helpful. The walking that I did manage was nice but the weather made it very hard work and I would avoid summer walking in that part of the world. Other than that I would highly recommend.
We were extremely happy with our Inntravel experience. The walks were interesting, and we loved that we could do as much or as little as we liked each day. The hotels were charming, with wonderful breakfasts and often sea views. I will definitely recommend Inntravel to friends in the United States.

The towns of the Cinque Terre are beautiful but overrun with tourists. They arrive by the boat and train-load, and overwhelm the little towns. If you come on this holiday, concentnrate on the walks, which are challenging but reward you with glorious views and lanscape. Lovely.
HIGHLIGHTS: Portovenere and the hotel Paradiso and the beauty of the town itself - fantastic.
INNTRAVEL NOTE: A holiday combining our Secret Lake Iseo and The Cinque Terre holidays.
Our favourite walk was from Manarola to Corniglia, quiet and off the beaten track. We met people who had done a different walk from Monterosso to Venazza, on a lower route who said it was much busier than the one we did, and was a little lower so thank you for directing us to a less popular route.
The views were spectacular around Lake Iseo and it was lovely to progress along the lake and see it from different angles.
From the moment we engaged with Robert from Inntravel throughout our complete holiday experience every aspect was so professionally handled. My sister had recommended Inntravel and is shortly going on her 9th holiday with you. We wanted a mixture of walking holiday with some luxury at the beginning and end, we couldn't have planned it better ourselves .
Inntravel took all the hassle out of trying to plan a holiday from booking tickets for air and train and hotels to bag transfers and great walking notes for city walks and countryside treks .
This was a first for us and we will definitely be booking lots more. I will be spreading the word in Ireland about the fabulous experience we had with Inntravel.
Portovenere seems to cater for daytrippers more than locals and this appears to be reflected in the predominance of average restaurants. However, there is a wonderful option of booking at Locanda Lorena on the island of Palmaria just across the harbour. They provided a personal boat taxi for the 5 minute crossing. Food and ambience really good, creating a genuine sense of a special occasion.
