Florence

Thanks to the magnificent and unmistakable dome of the cathedral, Florence’s cityscape is one of the most easily recognisable in Europe, and arguably one of its most dazzling, too. Of course, its not just the skyline that people flock to Florence for. Since Florence was the birthplace of the Renaissance, it would be wrong not to visit at least one world-famous gallery. Take your pick of the Uffizi, the Bargello, the Galleria dell’Accademia, the Palazzo Vecchio or the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo and marvel at some of Europe’s most iconic Renaissance paintings, frescoes and sculptures.

Sightseeing

  • Notes for a self-guided walking tour included
    We provide notes for a self-guided walking tour exploring graceful squares, narrow streets and ancient bridges, and passing historic palaces, grand public buildings and the most famous art galleries. You'll no doubt want to stroll over the arcaded Ponte Vecchio spanning the River Arno, and it is also well worth climbing the cathedral dome’s 463 steps for a different perspective of the city.
  • Renaissance masterpieces
    Whether you visit just one, or all, is entirely up to you (you will need to book extra nights if you plan to visit several). The world-renowned Uffizi Gallery contains works by Giotto, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael, among others, while the Galleria dell’Accademia houses Michelangelo’s statue of David and other lauded sculptures. 

    Both galleries are understandably popular. If you would like an art fix without the crowds, head to the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, which houses superlative works by Michelangelo and Donatello yet tends to be much quieter. 

    Please note that many museums and galleries are closed on Mondays.
