Idyllic Menorca

We thoroughly enjoyed the cycling holiday in Menorca. The roads are generally fairly quiet or very quiet and the countryside is beautiful. The routes were all easy to follow and to interesting places and about the right length for us. There were some steep sections but these are relatively short. The beaches were spectacular and we swam most days. We particularly enjoyed the beach and town of Es Grau as it was un crowded and pretty. The town of Es Mercadal where the first hotel is located has plenty of good eating places although some of them were closed on Wednesdays. There is a good delicatessen on the same road as the hotel which makes excellent sandwiches for lunch to order. We would certainly be interested in booking another cycling holiday with Inntravel.

We very much enjoyed walking in the mountains of Mallorca, don't miss the walk from the reservoir it is well worth the taxi ride to the start. Although the hiking trails are well used they provide peace and tranquility away from bustle of the towns and villages.

The ride to the caves from Alcaufar Vell is not to be missed, the archaeology is fascinating and most of the sites are free, the Roman mosiac is amazing as are several of the settlements. It is possible to take your bike around other trails at Es Grau, those around the lakes side provide excellent bird watching.

Belen at Es Mercadel was lovely and could not do enough for us. 

A knee injury meant that we wanted a less strenous Inntravel holiday. This cycling holiday in Menorca was perfect, not least because we opted for electric bikes. They were great making it a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Es Mercadel is a friendly and welcoming small hotel. However, the limited choice at breakfast meant it would not be somewhere we would want to have spent longer at. Alcaufer Vell is a great place to finish the holiday. We could gladly have spent a week there. All the routes are good. We would recommend going to Ciutadella for the evening rather than losing a day's cycling. Its only 30 minutes and there are some great restaurants there. We had a good meal at Cas Consol overlooking the port. However, the best meal of our trip was at Cafe Bistro Sol 32 in Es Mercadel. Excellent food and wine at a very reasonable price. We cannot wait for our next Inntravel cycling holiday. 

We had a very enjoyable holiday although the weather was rather cool, cloudy, and wet at times. We would have liked another ride to the west of Alcaufer as cycling around the marina several times was not particularly enjoyable. There were lots of wild flowers and different birds in the countryside - Bee Eaters, Hoopoes, Marsh Harrier, Nightingales singing everywhere. The people of Menorca were charmingly friendly. 

We loved the opportunity to swim in the sea most days. We would recommend the Las Vegas restaurant in Es Mercadal, food and service was excellent.

We thoroughly enjoyed this cycling holiday in Menorca. We were lucky with the weather and found the notes easily took us to some lovely destinations. The host at Es Mercadal was particularly helpful and made some good reccommendations for dinner. Bistro 32 was excellent with good food and friendly staff. We had booked an extra day at Alcaufar Vell which meant we could enjoy a day walking through the Estate and along the coast path. Thoroughly reccommend this trip. 

Our first visit to Menorca - it is very pretty, with rolling hills, quite green, with white buildings dotted about, beautiful wildflowers, turquoise sea, and a highlight for us was the birds - we spotted two booted eagles, lots of black kites, an Eleonora falcon, swallows, swifts, hoopoes and two European rollers. And some tortoises, lizards, dragonflies, butterflies too. A real surpise was the Tayalotic remains - some reminiscent of Stonehenge. Hotel Rural Alcaufar Vell was an incredibly relaxing place to come back to at the end of a day's cycling, and the staff in both hotels were very warm and friendly.

This was our first cycling holiday and we loved it. From beginning to end everything was organised in a way that we had enough information to get from A to B but were also able to do it in an order we chose and at a pace that we wanted to go at. We managed to stop off at many attractions and enjoy each day. the hotels were both fantastic in their own ways and I would happily go on another trip organised by Inntravel.

We discovered some wonderful things. Menorca, for a start, came as a delighftul surprise: it is relaxed, friendly and beautiful. All drivers were more than polite which made the rides happy. The terrain is challenging in places but not impossible. Beautiful beaches, lush countryside and a really special cuisine with an abundance of regional produce - we are in love. 

Alcauvar Vell is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at. From the quality of decor to the fantastic, relaxed restaurant and utterly charming service, it was wonderful in every way. We stayed for four nights and could happy have stayed for a fortnight. 

And InnTravel, I have nothing but good to say about you! The holiday was excellently planned, we really could turn our brains off for a week. Your local research is in depth and well written. The folder of information was good quality. I feel as though we stumbled across an inside secret and we will definitely holiday with you again. Thank you.

The hotels were exceptional and Es Mercadal is a lovely little town with some nice restaurants and is well connected by bus. A day trip to Ciutadella is worthwhile, Hotel Alcaufar Vell is a little remote - not a problem really but every trip needed to be on foot or by bike. Mahon is a short cycle ride along some quiet roads and we parked up in the main bus station which is a short walk from the centre. The fish market is worth a visit for tapas and nice wine. 

The food and wine in the hotels and restaurants were very good and reasonably priced and the scenery was lovely. The island was very quiet and the beaches we visited had little in the way of facilities. Some of the roads/tracks and paths were quite rough. The two main hills were coming out of Es Mercadal but the other routes were gently undulating.

Up to usual excellent Inntravel standard. Hotel Rural Alcaufar Vell was excellent in terms of accomodation, food especially and service.

Choosing e-bikes was a good idea because of the late summer heatwave! 

Delightful places & hotels. Drivers were considerate to cyclists, but most roads were quiet. Coves were particularly attractive.

We loved this 2 centre holiday, as you didn't have to pack up and move on every day, and could investigate the local area more fully. Both hotels in this holiday are delightful but quite different; Es Mercadal hotel is small, situated in the main street - spotlessly clean, and quiet, with simple, elegant furnishings but with a contemporay style - very cool!

Alcaufar Vell hotel just blew us away - an old building, parts of it dating from the 14th century, but also with modern rooms in the garden. The standard of the evening meals here was at gourmet level. Breakfast is served on the patio in the sunshine. May is a delightful time to vist Menorca - the spring flowers are out, and the weather - temperature in mid 20s - is perfect for cycling. 

Thoroughly enjoyed the holiday, the cycle routes were interesting and generally on quiet roads with no other traffic.

A very interesting tour around Menorca staying in two very different locations. We enjoyed cycling through the countryside where there was an abundance of wild flowers by the roadside and having lunch on the beach or in a harbour cafe. Es Mercadal was a bustling small town and we enjoyed eating out each night in the local tapas bars. Hotel Alcaufar Vell was exceptionally good in a very quiet location and the restaurant served excellent food. Perhaps it was because it was still low season, but we didn't have a set menu as expected - we chose our meals from the à la carte menu each evening and they included a bottle of wine with the meal.

This was an ideal spring break. Well located hotels and a good selection of routes with good travel notes. Faultless.

The hotel Alcaufar Vell was the highlight of the holiday. The room, food and staff were all fantastic.
