Alsace Discovery

Villages, vineyards & forested hills

This Holiday in a nutshell
  • self-guided, hotel-to-hotel walking and cycling with your luggage transported
  • exquisite, flower-festooned villages
  • quiet lanes amid rolling vineyards, and woodland walking trails
  • fine gastronomy and world-class wines

This sunny corner of eastern France, nestling between the Vosges Mountains and the mighty River Rhine, is known for its picture-postcard villages, great wines and fine gastronomy. The varied scenery – rolling hills carpeted with vineyards against the backdrop of higher, forested slopes – suits this mixture of easy cycling and moderate walking just perfectly.
I don’t think I have ever travelled through any other part of France where visitors are given such a genuinely warm welcome… and the food is out of this world.

The Guardian
Alsace’s valleys are dotted with picturesque villages and criss-crossed with country lanes, which makes perfect terrain for your days on two wheels. In fact, it’s hard to imagine a more perfect setting for pootling around on a bike. The celebrated route des vins leads you from one unutterably charming settlement to another, with half-timbered buildings sprouting colourful displays of geraniums and remarkable storks’ nests balanced on the chimney pots. But the beauty of our ‘wheels and wanderings’ approach means that you can also enjoy our moderately strenuous walking routes to explore the very different – but equally rewarding – foothills of the Vosges Mountains, too. Here, scintillating viewpoints and crumbling castle ruins provide a remarkable contrast; so that the overall experience, when combined with the fine traditions of gastronomy and hospitality for which Alsace is so famous, is a multi-dimensional and tremendously varied exploration of all that this fabulous region has to offer.
