Villages & Vineyards of Alsace

Alsace is beautiful.   We were blown away but the people we met, the views, the towns the quality of the restaurants.   We had the most wonderful holiday and would recommend it to anyone.  

At the Gare du Nord metro station we had to use the same ticket three times. There's a tiny notice in French at each barrier telling you to hang on to it; easily missed. We were particularly impressed by the efficiency and friendliness of the lady taxi driver who drove us from and to Colmar station. 

Highlight: The friendliness of the Remparts Hotel.

Dining in Kayserberg was difficult. Booking a couple of days in advance recommended.

Highlights included the use of excellent e-bikes making access to hill top villages easy. We particularly enjoyed staying at the Hotel la Cour du Bailli, good indoor pool, excellent attentive service and great meal at the restaurant opposite the hotel. We also enjoyed a few wine tastings.

This was another first rate holiday with Inntravel for our family of four. We didn't quite know what to expect from Alsace but came away with an appreciation of its amazing wine, architecture, food and scenery that will stay forever. The city of Colmar was also a big hit and worth a visit in its own right. When we stayed in Bergheim the restaurants were either closed or fully booked so we decided to have our main meal as lunch in nearby Chatenois. It was well worth it, and with eating over freed up time do enjoy an extended forest cycle along the Roman Salt route and lazy ride back to the hotel as the sun went down. 

A fabulous cycling holiday including visits to wonderfully pretty villages and cycling through gorgeous countryside.  We had a brilliantly relaxing time and very much enjoyed discovering a part of France that we hadn't visited before.

We had a wonderful meal in Animus in Bergheim which I would highly recommend.

We enjoyed the freedom of cycling to our own timescale but with the reassurance of using tried and tested routes. We felt we saw the hidden highlights of the region as well the well visited places. We'd recommend a couple of nights in Colmar, it deserves more than a cursory visit and better without the bikes. Also a couple of nights in Strasbourg.  It's a very compact city and easy to navigate by bike. 

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the holiday, including the quality of e bike routes which were well thought through and just right for us. Alsace is delightful and this holiday was an excellent way of seeing the best of it. We were lucky with the weather, and it was fantastic cycling through beautiful villages, and past amazing vineyards at just the right pace.

We both found the whole cycle tour experience to be exceptional and far beyond our expectations. The distances were comfortably achievable with plenty of flexibility built into each day's trip. The variety of trails was also a highlight, especially the forest sections allowing a welcome relief from the heat we experienced during our 5 days... beautiful weather but around 30 degrees on a few days (unusually hot for early June according to locals). We highly recommend Inntravel for their organisation, guiding information provided and the structure of the tour itself. 

As usual an enjoyable Inntravel holiday. I think this is either our third or fourth holiday with you. Obviously things change with owners of restaurants and developments and upgrades of roads so the route you take may not be exactly as it says in the notes. Read the map and use a compass and it all works out! All part of the challenge and enjoyment of the holiday.

Alsace lends itself nicely to a cycling holiday and we found the locals very friendly and helpful.

Alsace is very beautiful, especially in May with an abundance of wild flowers and Storks nesting on the rooftops.

Had a thoroughly enjoyable trip. Given that it was a composite holiday (9 countries, 14 beds, 2400 miles) it is difficult to do an overall review but thank you Inntravel for pulling a number of the parts together.

This was our third cycling holiday with Inntravel and again we have been absolutely delighted with the holiday. The quality of accommodation, the routes, the notes, the food and the places we visited were all fabulous. We are already planning next year's holiday. Thank you. 

This part of Alsace is gorgeous and well worth a visit. Cycling is a great way to explore it. We loved the beautiful villages- it's hard to single one out. Leave plenty of time to explore them.

Alsace is a wonderful location. The vineyards are very accessible and there are numerous wine-tastings which are very tempting! There is high demand for places in restaurants and really you have to try and book in advance, but the opening times of restaurants can be very confusing! 

The cycling through vineyards was marvellous. Particular highlight was the day we cycled 40 kms to Munster as the route along the valley was really good. Loved the time we spent in Colmar too.

Your routes are fabulous, and the choices given for each day were great too. It meant there was no pressure to tackle a longer ride which made it much easier to do. Each place we stayed was picture book perfect, thank you.

Fantastic holiday let down by the poor bikes.  Hard to pick out a highlight as there were so many but making it up the long climb on day 4 followed by a delightful decent on perfect roads enjoying the views then a large lunch was probably it!  Tip would be have a stroll round the village to select your restaurant for the evening as soon as you've finished your days ride and pop in to book a table. They only seem to do one sitting and finish incredibly early.

Turckheim is definitely worth a visit. Overall an excellent holiday with stunningly pretty villages and towns. Thanks for an excellently organised holiday. Just to add, although the room at Ferme du Pape was disappointing (perhaps we should upgrade next time!), the staff in all three hotels were amazingly helpful and friendly. The bike hire was of excellent quality, staff in the hire shop brilliant and the route interesting and stimulating. We look forward to our next Inntravel trip.

Meticulously planned holiday. Excellent value for money. Amazingly relaxing considering the distances travelled. A shame about the quality of the bikes provided.

Cycling through the vineyards was a delight..............so quiet, so green...and so French (or Alsation.......)

Very good way to see a lovely part of the world. 

The final days cycling although challenging in parts was perhaps the prettiest of all. Meandering through vineyards and picture book villages was the perfect end to our holiday. The standard and quality of hotels and food was excellent throughout. 

We all enjoyed a very happy holiday, thank you. We relished gliding off on our powerful bikes somewhere different every day after staying in pretty villages, along quiet tracks following the contours for all the vineyards. As a contrast we chose routes making steeper ascents through the magnificent forestry, leading to wonderful views East across the plain to the Schwarzwald in Germany. As we descended we were serenaded by woodland birdsong. We enjoyed observing the work taking place amongst the vines including the sophisticated tractors tying them in. The unfailing friendliness of all the people we met or who served us was enjoyed and we relished the consideration of drivers towrads us on the busier roads. The bikes were so powerful that a few off piste road tracks in the forestry going from 0 to 1200 feet seemed effortless!

Lunch stops: Turkenheim '? la Tour', excellent Tarte Flambe. NB On Monday many places are closed so perhaps notes could mention lunch stops/preparations. in Dambach la Ville, before Noon when he closed, we found an excellent Patisserie for lunch snacks. Perhaps buy something before the day starts and carry it with you.

Restaurant: La Caveau d'Eguisheim lived up to recommendation in notes. 'La Vielle Forge' was outstanding although not cheap, but open for limited hours and booking essential weeks beforehand.

Another fantastic well-organised holiday from Inntravel. We waited two years for this and after several Covid delays, this trip was as good as ever. It's a real pleasure to use Inntravel - what a great professional team.

A superb holiday with beautiful unspoilt scenery, stunning villages and excellent e-bikes that made the cycling effortless.

Tips: We found the best way to follow the routes was by using a phone on the handlebars to save keep stopping to look at notes. Most restaurants in Kaysersberg were closed on Monday night, however we found Restaurant Le Kasersberg open and the food was excellent with waterside dining. It is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays though.
