Highlights were the Lofoten islands and having the freedom of a car to explore. Weather was fabulous which helped. The Hurtigruten leg was on our bucket list and it lived up to expectations with the early morning excursion to Trondheim and the guided visit to the cathedral before the crowds came proving a special experience. Also the chance to visit small towns and working ports along the way. The fjord trip from Balestrand to Flam was another highlight again helped by good weather. Also the Flam railway and the Flam to Oslo 5 hour train trip through amazing scenery at 4 thousand feet above sea level. We found Norway to be a stunningly beautiful country, very friendly people and the food was generally excellent. The breakfasts were first class and the hotel evening buffets were of a high standard. High standard of cleanliness everywhere and the transport infrastructure is astonishing.
Negatives were the high cost of food and drink which we knew would be the case and the fact that most of our meals were included in the price of the holiday did help in that respect. If you are a coffee lover take note that a lot of places only serve filtered coffee and trying to find a decent cappuccino was a challenge.
We had an absolutely super time in the Lofoten Islands with lots of opportunities for seeing the sea eagles both on walks along the coast and on the organised boat trips. We added an extra day there and we're glad we did. The trip down the coast, through the Fjords and on the railways was a great adventure. The hotels were super and the travel arrangements worked extremely well. The Hurtigruten is a busy coastal ferry and so try and get a cabin away from the noise of going in and out of ports. The service from the restaurants and experience teams on the boat was excellent. The whole holiday was a wonderful introduction to Norway.

A truly wonderful holiday which we very fortunately experienced with the best of weather. Norway is a beautiful country with breathtaking scenery and views. The variety of locations and hotels, ships & boats to travel on gave us a real insight into the country & its people. Norway has an enviable efficient transport system & all the many connections & transfers worked smoothly. Highlights for us were the sea eagle safari in Svolvaer & the many walks and treks that we enjoyed. Walking in the area was very special with magnificent views, birdsong & waterfalls. Even the air tasted & smelt cleaner. Another truly special Inntravel holiday, our thanks to the whole team
We loved Kviknes hotel and the walks around Balestrand. Flam was a bit of a bunfight with the huge cruise ships in the harbour. Probably would have liked an extra day in Bergen. Hurtigruten was definitely the highlight of the trip but 3 days was probably enough. All in all a great holiday.
Inntravel were a bit inefficient in sending everything out in the information pack. We were booked on the 5 hour train journey 4 carriages apart - Inntravel sorted it out though. Didn't get the car hire details either so a few phone calls required. Lovely holiday though.
Just got home after the most wonderful 2 weeks on the Norwegian Highlights holiday. This is the first time we have used an agent and feel so lucky to have found Inntravel. This holiday linked up all the best bits of visiting Norway as a tourist, the far north and dramatic scenery of Lofoten, travel/cruising on the 130 year old route of the Hurtigruten postal boat (in a very new boat!), adventures into the breathtaking fjords on speed boats (public transport!), a two tier rail journey to die for (the steep and charming Flam ride, and the long distance Myrdal to Oslo train, through arctic tundra), and the culture of two beautiful and bustling cities, Bergen and Oslo. Each hotel we stayed in was extrememly comfortable, and bursting with character. We were fed like kings (mostly huge and excellent buffet breakfasts and lunches). They were the hotels that we'd have wished we'd booked on arriving somewhere! The travel plans were so neatly tied together, late checkouts for travel days, car hire at the time of the plane arriving, different drop off point, all the little things that I wouln't have managed if travelling independently. This was the best of both worlds, independent travel, but all knitted together with great skill and experience by Inntravel. A really wonderful experience.
The Lofoten Islands are beatiful, with stunning scenery. The standard of food was very high.
Bergen is an interesting city, and the ride up the funicular railway well worth it.
Balestrand is an attractive village and we enjoyed our electric bike rides round the fjord. Flam is a bit touristy, and the place is dominated by huge cruise ships. A trip up to see the Stegastein viewpoint is a good trip out of town.
The Hurtigruten cruise seemed only one step up from a car ferry. No entertainment and only 2 hours off the ship in 3 days.
The Bergen and Oslo cards were very useful. We went on the train to see the ski jump outside Oslo, and visited 3 museums for free, using the Oslo card.

A varied and comprehensive tour of Norway via air, ship, ferry and trains. The Lofoten Islands were stunning and gained a real insight in to how people lived. Despite being described as touristy we particularly liked Henningsvaer, once away from the main car park it felt more authentic. The trip to Trollfjord Sea Eagle boat safari is worthwhile but check how many people have booked on the boat as were joined in with a coach tour group.
The Hurtigruten cruise is very good, however the organised activities and tours off the boat are not value for money. It is possible to do your own walking tours of Trondheim and Brønnøysund.
While staying in Balestrand it is possible to hire bikes (electric) from the very friendly tourist office which makes an interesting afternoon.
In Flåm it's possible to use the train and request a midway stop for a lovely walk back down the valley. A visit to the micro-brewery pub on the quayside is a must.
Norwegian Highlights is a very well organised tour around beautiful, varied scenery and cities. There is a lot of travel but its variety is interesting and each journey throws up new pleasures. The accommodation is excellent throughout. The support and information from Inntravel is first class. We had an emergency completely outside Inntravel's control and their handling of the consequences was highly competent and totally reassuring.
'Norwegian Highlights' was a very good combination of self-drive around the Lofoten Islands, cruising down the coast and into the fjords, train travel through the mountains, transport and walking tours of the cities/small towns. Visiting Troldhaugen near Bergen, the former home of Edvard Grieg, to listen to a lunchtime concert; travelling on the Flam railway journey and visiting the Kon-tiki Museum were the high points of the trip for us. Careful advance reading of the Inntravel notes and a visit to the tourist information point at each stop meant that we could find all the things we wanted to do and best fit them into the time available and the vagaries of the "summer" weather.
A beautifully constructed and deeply satisfying trip, full of contrasts and always stimulating.
After the inactivity of the Covid period this holiday was a tonic. It would be difficult to pack more into two weeks and we so much enjoyed the variety, not only of places but of the many modes of public transport whose timetables kept us on our (rather old) toes. Packing for a journey from the Arctic Circle down to Oslo seemed daunting but dress is not formal anywhere on this holiday. Waterproofs, layers and comfortable shoes are enough and we were glad we kept our bags fairly light because they needed handling quite often. Practicalities apart, we especially appreciated the choice of hotels, they were all tip-top. On dry land and from boats, the views are amazing and the boat trip into the fjord was spectacular. But the highlight for us was the first stop in the Lofoten Islands. They are simply magical. The drive along the coast road to the village of A is something we will always remember with no need to look at any of our many photos.
We had a fantastic trip with Inntravel on the Norwegian Highlights self guided tour. The trip was superbly planned across this amazing country with a variety of different experiences and some great hotels along the way. The guidance notes were excellent and really helped us get the most from our trip. Everything went to plan and we were delighted with the holiday. All in all, a superb experience. Full marks to Inntravel!
Some of the prices had risen considerably since your guide. For example, the National Theater to Oslo airport ticket was closer to 210 kr each , single.
Some of the opening hours were also more limited. Eg the Bergen Tourist office was only 9 to 4 any day.
Also it's worth telling customers that as far as shopping goes, Oslo is basically shut come 3pm on Saturdays. So we didn't really need to be there on Sat pm at the end.
Also, 2 nights in Flam is too long. One afternoon would be enough, 1 night at the very max, allowing more daytime in Oslo.
The Bergen card is only really worth the money if you crammed in a lot of museums every day.
