How our city add-ons & special getaway breaks work

Special weekends away
  • country hotels of character offering a special welcome to Inntravel guests and excellent  regional cuisine, ideal for special getaways
  • city add-ons featuring well-located hotels and, in many cases, notes for self-guided city walking tours

Special getaways

With so many years’ experience (we have been offering short breaks since the very start, back in 1984), we know exactly what to look for in a hotel – lots of character, comfortable bedrooms, an attractive setting with plenty to see and do in the local vicinity and, above all, excellent cuisine and a welcoming atmosphere. Indeed, as Inntravel guests, you can expect particularly attentive hospitality thanks to our long-standing relationships with the hoteliers. As these special weekend (or midweek) getaways have been chosen with celebrations in mind (be it a birthday, wedding anniversary or retirement), we usually include at least one gastronomic meal, as well as little ‘extras’ such as an aperitif or champagne on arrival, as stated in the holiday description. Cakes, chocolates and/or flowers can also be arranged (see the price panel for prices or ask us for a quotation). Many of the hotels we feature are small enough for a group of friends and family to occupy them in their entirety, thus adding to the specialness of the break.

City add-ons for a couple of days of culture

Our city add-ons incorporate a wide and eclectic range of cities, where you can add on a couple of nights at the start or end of your walking, cycling, winter or other holiday. As with all our short breaks, we offer hand-picked hotels, centrally located so that you are close to the main sights. Only breakfast is included in our arrangements with city hotels so that you are free to take your pick of the many restaurants. Since they are intended as add-ons en route to or from another holiday, the prices do not include any element of travel. (The exception is our city break to Paris by rail, which includes return travel by Eurostar in standard class from London or Ebbsfleet.) If you would like to book a stay in one of these cities as a stand-alone break, please contact us for prices (minimum three nights, or two nights if booking flights through us).

Detailed documentation

To help you get the most out of your break, we provide detailed customer documentation. Along with cultural information and directions to the hotel, it offers suggestions as to what to see and where to explore, from markets to museums and memorials to fallen soldiers, and from producers of local specialities to peaceful formal gardens. Where possible or relevant, we also provide details of a self-guided city walking tour or a specially devised driving tour taking in various places of interest, as well as restaurant recommendations if your stay is on a bed-and-breakfast basis. To accompany your documentation, we also provide a driving map for self-drive and fly-drive breaks, and a city plan for city breaks.

With every aspect of your holiday covered, we hope that you will enjoy a relaxed and carefree break. Things rarely go wrong, but for peace of mind we provide a 24-hour emergency helpline.

The right break for you

With various considerations to bear in mind when choosing the hotel for your special weekend getaway or city break, we will be happy to offer advice so that you can select the one that is right for you. We can also help you tailor the arrangements for your chosen holiday to suit you. You can choose to take your car across the Channel using P&O, Eurotunnel or Brittany Ferries for self-drive breaks in northern France; travel by standard or first class on city breaks by train; choose a UK airport convenient for you if flying; upgrade to a superior room in your hotel where available; and vary the length of the holiday. The maximum stay for self-drive short breaks and breaks by rail is limited to 4 nights (otherwise a different price is applicable), and the extra night price includes the ‘standard’ meal arrangements, as stated in the price panel (ie if the break includes the standard menu on one night and an upgraded menu on the other night, then the extra night price is based on the standard menu and, similarly, if the break is on a bed-and-breakfast basis with a meal at a restaurant included on one night, then the extra night price includes breakfast only).
