This extraordinary journey combines relaxed walking routes with visits to historic towns, and takes in many of the cultural influences which helped to shape this enchanting landscape. Beginning in the Andalucian port of Huelva, at the very site where Columbus set sail for the New World, you gradually travel north, taking in some memorable walking in the little-known Aracena Sierra. On entering Extremadura, you uncover echoes of turbulent events spanning five centuries. Finally you reach Seville, architectural symbol of Spain's imperial era.

Andalucia's Aracena Sierra is a land of glorious woodland and far-reaching views, of soft, rounded hills and crystal-clear streams. Our enchanting walk meanders leisurely through the hills to the lower valleys, the beautiful chestnut forests giving way to magnificent cork-oak woods as you progress eastwards. Along the way you pass through many of the small, friendly villages that are scattered in the valleys and on the hillsides and which are full of southern spirit.

Discover the beautiful mountain scenery of Andalucia's Grazalema Natural Park as you walk between its pueblos blancos, white villages shining in the brilliant sunshine. The Park, which is surprisingly green, shelters many birds, including Bonelli's eagles and griffon vultures.

Andalucia's Tranquil Heartland

This walk explores the timeless landscapes of the Alpujarras, a region of lush valleys and dramatic gorges framed by the mighty Sierra Nevada in Spain's deep south. The emphasis is on the walking - we have found some truly memorable and very varied routes that reveal the many different landscapes of the Alpujarras: steep-sided gorges, orange groves, bubbling streams, arid areas dotted with cacti, chestnut woods, terraced slopes watered by irrigation systems introduced by the Moors, and olive groves.
