Switzerland
Summer in the mountain villages of Switzerland has a special magic. Fresh mountain air and bright sunshine invite you to enjoy an outdoor life; these mountains seem to have a unique ability to refresh and revitalise. Travellers over the centuries have marvelled at mountains such as the Matterhorn and the Eiger, and there is an indisputable romance to be surrounded by such peaks. High-quality hospitalityThese are inspiring regions to discover. Standards of hospitality are high, with excellent hotels. We feature mostly 3- and 4-star establishments, some of which have been welcoming travellers for centuries. Wherever you go, expect to eat and drink well too culinary delights include heady fondues and tasty rösti (potato cakes), accompanied by a cool beer or the refreshing Swiss wines. As you walk or explore, welcoming mountain cafés seem to turn up at just the right moment for a refreshing break. Grand scenery & quiet valleys
We have sought out the quieter areas, like the idyllic Engadine and the Jura, and traditional villages such as Kandersteg and Mürren in the Bernese Oberland. Choose from challenging high-altitude walks, easier routes that nevertheless allow you to explore the heart of the mountains, and flexible walks that can be tailored to suit you. We offer most of our holidays through late September and into October, the two months preferred by the Swiss themselves for walking because of the clear views, settled weather and wonderful tranquillity. Our walking holidays:> Lake Lucerne (grade 2) > Lake Geneva to Lake Neuchâtel (grade 2) > Towards the Matterhorn (grades 2 & 3) > The Villages of the Engadine (grades 2 & 3) > The Bernese Oberland (grades 2 & 3) > Around the Vaudoise Alps (grade 2-3) > Lake Oeschinensee & Beyond (grade 2-3 discovery walk) > Bernese Oberland, the High Route (grade 3)
