Hotel Llevant, Llafranc, Catalan Coast. Enjoy delicious fresh seafood or fideua (paella with pasta instead of rice) as you admire the views over the bay at this locally renowned restaurant. Featured on our Along the Catalan Coast walk. Le Buffet, Isbergues, Pas de Calais. Once the railway station canteen (hence the name), this smart hotel is no longer recognisable as such. The food served nowadays in the elegant restaurant (including dishes such as meunière de turbot sur un risotto bouquet d'asperges – turbot cooked in butter and lemon on a bed of asparagus risotto) could not be further removed from station fare, and is fully deserving of its Michelin bib gourmand. Hotel San Carlo, Cortemilia, Piedmont. Carlo Zarris cuisine is exquisite, drawing on the rich local produce white truffles, hazelnuts, game and even nettles! (Try his nettle ravioli with a hazelnut sauce its out of this world!) As a trained sommelier, hell be able to recommend a good wine from the 1,000-plus wines in his cellar.

For special occasions, it is well worth upgrading to the menu gastronomique, fit for kings and with a different wine to accompany each course. Hotel Grèvol, Llanars, Catalan Pyrenees. One of the best restaurants our Spanish Regional Manager has eaten at in this part of Spain, and believe us when we say she has visited an awful lot! A rewarding day's walk through the mountains of Catalonia as part of our Catalan Pyrenees walk is ample justification to indulge! Hotel Pont de l'Ouysse, Lacave, Dordogne. Just to think of the Dordogne can set your mouth watering as images of duck, truffles and foie gras dance in front of your eyes. This stylish hotel close to the confluence of the Dordogne and Ouysse rivers is a real find. Like the Cheval Blanc above, it is fully deserving of its Michelin star, and a highlight of our Paths to Rocamadour walking holiday. Hotel Castle, Blitzingen, Goms Valley. Refined, beautifully crafted Swiss dishes – just the ticket after a day on the cross-country trails. Oustal del Barry, Najac, Aveyron.
