Hotel Xander, Leutasch, TyrolSet in an idyllic and very peaceful valley with cross-country skiing and winter walking from the door, the 4-star Hotel Xander is a great choice if you are looking to spend plenty of time in the snow. Rooms: Our prices are based on the spacious east-facing rooms which boast seating, a kitchen corner, space for one extra bed and a balcony with views along the valley. For an even better outlook, upgrade to a west-facing room with a balcony or a larger, panoramic room without a balcony. In all rooms, the white walls are offset by the blues, golds and reds of the soft furnishings, and there is a telephone, radio, hairdryer and satellite television. The beds are Austrian twins, which consist of two mattresses, each with its own bedding, on one large base. Smoking is not permitted in the bedrooms. Facilities: The hotel may be the oldest hostelry in the valley, dating back some 800 years, but the recreational facilities are as wide-ranging as those of a modern hotel and include a 10-metre-by-5-metre indoor pool complete with a counter-current device, a Finnish sauna, bio sauna, whirlpool, solarium, fitness room and steam bath. For a charge, you can also indulge yourself with a facial, body treatment, beauty treatment, massage, herbal bath or hydrotherapy treatment. The hotel also offers a lounge (where smoking is not permitted), a television room with internet access, and a conservatory which opens out onto a sun terrace. Restaurant: Dinner is a four-course meal consisting of soup or starter, salad buffet, main course (typically with the choice of an Austrian dish, a lighter option and a vegetarian dish) and dessert buffet. Also included in the price is a light lunch of soup and cakes served between 2pm and 4pm. Skiing and other winter activities: From the ski room, you set off directly into the snow, up or down the valley, which has been named Europe’s Most Beautiful Cross-Country Domain. Enjoy the stillness as you ski past pretty farms, timeless hamlets and onion-domed chapels. You could even ski into Germany and catch a train back. The flat terrain makes the skiing particularly good for beginners and intermediates (most of the area’s 118 kilometres of trails are graded blue and red), and the high altitude means an excellent snow record. In addition to the cross-country skiing, there are 13 kilometres of downhill skiing in the valley (plus 28 kilometres at nearby Seefeld) and 80 kilometres of winter walking paths, another enjoyable way to appreciate the valley’s quiet splendour. You can also try your hand at curling and ice-skating, and our prices include a half-day guided snow-shoe excursion with your hosts and other guests. The village: Kirchplatzl is a tranquil hamlet with a church, tourist office, ski shop and bank. The valley has a sedate atmosphere, making it best suited to anyone looking for peace and quiet. Christmas & New Year festivities: The hotel celebrates Christmas with a gala dinner with live music on 24 December, while New Year is marked with live music late into the night and a buffet at midnight.
