Les Granges du Bout de la Ville

Delightful self-catering cottages in tranquil location

A great choice if you are looking to get away from it all are these delightful half-timbered cottages on the road leading into Montville, close to Rouen yet surrounded by forest and open fields. Owned by Jérôme and Dominique of the Val au Cesne, Les Granges, once part of a mill, comprises eight attractively rustic terraced cottages, each with one bedroom (the eighth cottage has two bedrooms), bathroom, and a living room with kitchen corner fitted with fridge, microwave and hob. Essentials for breakfast are provided, and bread and pastries are delivered daily free of charge. In the evening cook for yourselves or dine at one of the local restaurants, all of which are just a few minutes' drive from Les Granges (pay locally).

• 8 cottages • Le Havre 56 miles, Calais 130 miles

Around and about

• the historic city of Rouen, characterised by cobbled streets and ancient houses. The Musée des Beaux Arts is one of the best outside Paris
• the Seine valley, especially the abbey at Jumièges, the church at Caudebec-en-Caux, the Victor Hugo museum at Villequier, and the castle in the pretty village of Les Andelys
• coastal strolls (a long-distance GR footpath leads along the coast between the Somme estuary and Etretat)
• the cliffs at Etretat, particularly dramatic on blustery days
• a tour around the Bénédictine distillery at Fécamp
• the coastal town of St Valéry-en-Caux, with its attractive old quarter
• Normandy's many châteaux, including the Château de Cany-Barville
• scenic drives past apple orchards, half-timbered villages and rolling fields so typical of Normandy
• Honfleur and Deauville
• gardens such as the Jardins de Bellevue and the Jardins des Plantes (we give full details about all the gardens worth visiting in Upper Normandy in our documentation)

We provide more detailed information about what to see and do, including suggestions as to where to buy food and wine to take home, in the documentation sent out to you when you book.
