Hotel du Cheval Blanc

3-star hotel on Honfleur quayside

The location of this comfortable hotel is enviable, right on the harbourside overlooking the marina. It first opened its doors in the 16th century, the centuries-old tradition of hospitality continued nowadays by friendly hosts Vincent and Martine Dubost. Bedrooms are comfortable and well equipped and all look out over the fishing boats and elegant yachts. The views are shared by the first-floor breakfast room, the perfect place to start the day. On your first night, we include dinner at Entre Terre et Mer which boasts a Michelin bib gourmand and has a wonderfully relaxed and unstuffy atmosphere. As the restaurant's name suggests, the 4-course menu - in our view one of the best in the port - offers a choice of dishes from the land and the sea, including delights such as tuna steak with tapenade, and red mullet fillet pan-fried with coriander. On your second and any subsequent nights, you can sample other local eateries (pay locally), among them the Michelin-starred La Terrasse de l'Assiette, whose daily-changing menu features a mix of Norman and fish dishes such as salmon with artichokes and jambon de Bayonne, the highly-praised Les Flots, and the Chat Qui Pêche, an atmospheric brasserie whose speciality is matelotte, a fish stew with mushrooms and onions.
