Le Buffet

Outstanding cuisine in friendly logis

For a weekend of fine cuisine and genuine French hospitality close to Calais, choose this friendly 2-star logis in the small town of Isbergues. With such a warm welcome from Christine and Thierry Wident, you know you are in for a treat as soon as you step through the door. Originally the station canteen - hence the name - the inn's focus is still very definitely the restaurant, now elegantly furnished and recognised with a Michelin bib gourmand. Here, you can enjoy 4-course dinners with a choice of creative, well-crafted interpretations of regional dishes incorporating the freshest of ingredients from the market. There are just five comfortable bedrooms, all double-glazed to ensure tranquillity, and a pleasant garden, terrace and bar area. Great value for cooking of this standard and an excellent base from which to visit Lille.

• 5 bedrooms • Calais 47 miles • superior menu included

Around and about

• handsome St Omer with its delightful old centre
• Lille, a vibrant city with plenty going on. The Palais des Beaux Arts is second only to the Louvre
• towns in Belgian Flanders such as Veurne and Ypres
• the Belgian city of Ghent, every bit as beautiful as Bruges yet much quieter
• coastal strolls along the cliffs between Cap Blanc Nez and Cap Gris Nez, from where you can see across the Channel, or along the sandy beaches at Wissant
• taste wine before you buy at an excellent wine establishment just a few minutes' drive from Isbergues
• gardens such as the Jardins de Maizicourt and the Jardins de Valloire (we give full details about all the gardens worth visiting in Picardy in our documentation)
• follow one of our two driving tours. Both itineraries take in a variety of different places of interest, from World War I memorial sites to the 'cité souterraine' at Naours, and pass through pretty villages and picturesque valleys.

We provide more detailed information about what to see and do, including suggestions as to where to buy food and wine to take home, in the documentation sent out to you when you book.
