Easy to explore from any base, the entire island feels laid-back and tranquil, but the south-west corner, where visitors are few, is particularly restful. The gently rolling hills here are a delight to explore on foot, offering 360-degree panoramas of the coast as you walk. We provide route notes so that you can experience the vistas for yourselves. Mount Hum (12.5km, 4.5hrs): this very varied circular route leads across verdant slopes and along the rocky coastline, ascending to Mount Hum (376 metres) for fantastic views. As an alternative to walking, take to the sea in a boat, perhaps exploring one of the tiny islets which lie off Korčula’s shores, to enjoy a different perspective of this most picturesque of coastlines. It is on the south-west coast that tiny Karbuni is situated. The Vinko and Zaglav Apartments are set just outside the hamlet, in a fabulous location overlooking the turquoise sea. There is no pool, but none is needed - the smoothed rocks just 20 metres away from the apartments slope gently into the crystal-clear waters, perfect for swimming. Whether you stay in the Vinko or Zaglav Apartments will depend on availability and the size of your party - the Vinko Apartments have two or three bedrooms, while the Zaglav Apartments consist of one, two or three bedrooms. Otherwise, the accommodation is very similar - the simply furnished apartments are housed in whitewashed stone buildings and, in addition to the bedroom(s), comprise a shower room, a living-cum-dining room incorporating a kitchen equipped with the basics for preparing light meals and snacks, and a balcony or terrace commanding views over Zaglav Bay or Lastovo Island. Your welcoming hosts are often on hand to offer advice on excursions and options for dining out (the nearest shops and restaurants are a ten-minute drive away). The Vinko family live permanently on site, while Linda, the effusive, English-speaking owner of the Zaglav Apartments, spends the majority of her summer at this delightful spot.
