Enjoy a simple breakfast on the shady terrace

In the centre of the island lies a large plain, Es Pla, an area of gently undulating fertile red soil that gives rise to a rich patchwork of colours in most seasons. The pale almond blossom in spring and the deep green of the carob trees stand in stark contrast to this rich red soil, which has been cultivated by these hardy islanders for many centuries.

The plain allows easy access to bustling towns, sleepy villages, rugged mountains and the quietest beaches of the south and east, while the elegant capital, Palma, is just 30 minutes’ drive away.

What more could you want?

Indeed, with good roads in all directions, it doesn’t take long to reach the more mountainous regions in the north, where excellent walking can be found. We provide detailed walking notes for three walks for all abilities:

Delightful Deià (grade 1, 10km, 4h): drive to Port de Sóller then catch a bus to Deià, a very pretty village and a favourite of many bohemians, writers and poets in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Spend some time strolling through the cobbled streets of honey-coloured buildings or bathing in the small cove before following the old postman's route along the edge of the Muleta Plateau and descending to Port de Sóller.
Valldemossa & the Puig des Teix (grade 2-3, 12.5km, 4h): described by Chopin as ‘the most beautiful place in the world’, Valldemossa is another village not to be missed. It is dominated by its famous Carthusian monastery which houses a 17th-century pharmacy, Chopin’s piano and an excellent small art collection that includes works by Picasso and Henry Moore. After visiting the village, you can enjoy a rewarding circular walk up into the mountains, passing beneath the peak of the Teix (1,064 metres) for superb views of the coast in clear weather. You then follow bridleways created by Archduke Luis Salvador, Mallorca’s great benefactor, across a limestone plateau before descending back to Valldemossa through woods of holm oaks where wild goats often graze.
The Orange Valley (grade 2, 11km, 4.5h): leave your car in Sóller then take a taxi to the Ses Barques viewpoint and walk along ancient cobbled trails through a deep, fertile valley coated with orange groves. After rising out of the valley, you descend to the coast and follow the spectacular coastal path to the beach at Cala Tuent, enjoying some of the best sea views on the island before returning to Sóller by boat.

Deserted beaches along the southern coast

The nine apartments are all located within a carefully converted 15th-century manor house, its annexe and a separate property, which surround a central front courtyard. Many of the building’s original features have been maintained and blend in well with modern furnishings while retaining the charm of typical rural Mallorcan houses. From this central location you get splendid views across the rolling plain and the apartments make the perfect base from which to explore the island, by car, on foot or by bike - this is also excellent cycling country.

A superb development in a superb location

Your host, Cati Febrer, extends a very warm welcome and creates a convivial atmosphere, hosting a weekly dinner of regional specialities during the summer. Guests are welcome to collect fresh eggs and pick their own seasonal salad vegetables. There is a small bar and restaurant serving breakfast and dinner. Your host can also help you to arrange activities in the local area including balloon and microlite rides (pay locally) while the gardener is happy to take children out for a ride in his donkey cart.
