The Peloponnese remains one of the undiscovered beauties of Greece and has a very distinctive feel. It is unspoiled and wild, rich in mythology and history and, wherever you visit, you brush against a rich cultural fabric: ancient sites such as Olympia and Sparta, extraordinary medieval castles and fortified towns. Above all, this is a region of spectacular scenery, with vast, sweeping sandy beaches, lush gorges and forested mountains that stretch far inland. Follow a country lane and you will discover sleepy villages, friendly tavernas and hidden corners that will surprise and delight you.

The spectacular Taiyetos Mountains

In the southwest corner of the Peloponnese, you will find the peninsula of Mani with its traditional, yet romantic, ports and it is in one of these, Kardamili, that you will find the studios and apartments that form the accommodation of the stylish Notos Hotel Apartments. Kardamili is frequently described as one of the Mani’s most beautiful villages and retains a timeless quality.

History and heritage around every corner

It is well-known for its tranquil pace of life and good restaurants, and is set against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Taïyetos, the highest mountain on the Peloponnese. This is a village to unwind and relax in, or to use as a base for exploration on foot. With your hire car you can drive to Mystras and enjoy walks along cobbled pathways in the Taïyetos Mountains; travel south to Yerolimenas and walk to the ‘Mouth of Hell’, reputedly the entrance to Hades; or explore the secret gorges and leafy valleys of the Outer Mani on foot - for which we provide walking notes.

Pleasant walking country

Notos is the Greek for ‘south’ and it is not possible to get much further south on mainland Europe than this. In line with Tunis, Algiers and Gibraltar, the weather is almost guaranteed and yet, for six months of the year, the mountain peaks looming above Kardamili are covered in gleaming snow while their foothills are swathed in the greens, pinks and yellows of grassy terraces, olive groves and springs flowers.

Idyllic hillside location

The Notos Hotel is an elegant boutique hotel of intertwining terraces, stairways and intimate verandas, from where the views of the blue Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding vineyards are truly breathtaking. We offer nine 1-bedroom studios and four 2-bedroom apartments spread over the hillside in (semi-)independent stone buildings, giving the impression of a small traditional village.

The perfect place to end the day
