Switzerland

Sörenberg and Bernese Oberland

The Swiss Alps

Quintessential Alpine landscapes of meadows and high snow-capped peaks

Summer in the mountain villages of Switzerland has a special magic. Fresh mountain air and bright sunshine invite you to enjoy an outdoor life - walking is an activity enjoyed by people of all ages, and excellent waymarking, not to mention well-located chair lifts and cable cars to help you on your way, enable you to make the most of the superbly organised network of paths that lead across flower-filled meadows and into the mountains. Whether you choose to be active or just relax and appreciate the magnificent surroundings, visiting picture-book villages and historic towns, these mountains seem to have a unique ability to refresh and revitalise. Travellers over the centuries have marvelled at towering peaks such as that of the Eiger, and there is an indisputable romance to be surrounded by such summits.

Sörenberg

Rewarding walking through snow-capped mountains

Light-green meadows, bottle-green forests, yellow flowers, snow-capped peaks, houses of dark-brown wood, red geraniums in window-boxes - Switzerland delights with its colours. Right in the very heart of the country, Sörenberg is no exception. Nestling in a high valley, the village affords magnificent views across pastures grazed by cows to the Brienzer Rothorn (2,100 metres). It is a sleepy place, and as such makes a wonderful retreat for couples and families alike.

Bernese Oberland

Alpine scenery

Snow-capped mountains reflected in crystal-clear lakes

The Bernese Oberland is justly famed as the most dramatic region of Switzerland, but the romantic names of the Eiger, Jungfrau and Schilthorn are but part of the story. The Oberland also possesses villages tucked away in the quiet, sheltered valleys, where you will find a special serenity. For walking, few regions are the Oberland's equal. Well-waymarked paths offer thrilling views at every turn, with vivid green meadows - carpeted in flowers from mid-June to mid-July – giving way to dramatic, snow-capped peaks. The Edelweiss Apartments nestle in the midst of this grandeur and make the perfect base for exhilarating exploration.
