Largely off the beaten track, they remain wonderfully unspoiled and reward the interested visitor with fascinating discoveries. Such alluring scenery invites exploration either on foot or on two wheels, which is why, as Britain’s leading specialist in self-guided walking and cycling holidays, we include maps and walking or cycling route notes (usually aimed at anyone of average fitness) for the vast majority of properties.

Rewarding walking routes

For a less energetic holiday or simply a break from walking and cycling, make full use of your (hire) car to visit some of the many places of interest, be they ancient castles with many stories to tell, fortified medieval villages, Byzantine chapels with ornate frescoes, great art cities, or family-run vineyards where you can sample the wines.

The range of properties in this programme is wide and unique, catering for all tastes. You can choose to stay in a converted stone farmhouse on Italy’s Ligurian Coast, or a modern but beautifully styled cottage with its own pool in Provence. Alternatively, opt for a rustic apartment overlooking the sea in Croatia, or a traditional farmhouse in the heart of the Swiss mountains.

There are properties that sleep just two, others that will sleep larger parties of up to eight people. Some are perfect for a tranquil week or two away from it all, others make great bases for a fun holiday with the family. The choice is yours… Many have been converted from handsome old buildings in which original architectural features have been retained, some share facilities such as swimming pools and tennis courts, but all are set with other properties in outstanding scenery.
