Inntravel & The National Trust
Over the past four years Inntravel has proudly raised over £50,000 for The National Trust. As a company actively committed to responsible tourism, Inntravel is keen to help protect the environment. By booking a walking or cycling holiday from The National Trust Active Holidays Collection (see nationaltrust.org.uk/activeholidays) or a self-catering holiday from the National Trust European Cottages programme (visit nationaltrust.org.uk/european cottages), you too are contributing to securing a beautiful countryside for future generations.
When you pay for your holiday, a proportion goes to The National Trust and will provide funds for the excellent work they do. £30 would help to build a coastal footpath, £100 could go towards the restoration of a splendid neo-Gothic turret at Tyntesfield, £250 will renew twelve metres of hedgerow and £500 will help protect another mile of beautiful coastline.
Preserving the countryside at home whilst exploring unspoiled regions of Europe, is a great way to safeguard British heritage. Helping The National Trust to restore and maintain our country is very important to us, and we hope you will be a part of keeping special places forever, for everyone.
An estimated 100 million visits are made each year to the coast and countryside in the care of The National Trust. From Lake District fells to Cornish beaches, from the loughs of Fermanagh around Enniskillen to the beechwoods of the Chilterns, there are masses of opportunities to explore, discover and delight in the huge diversity of the British landscape.
Caring for and conserving these special places ‘for ever, for everyone’ is in the hands of teams of dedicated staff and volunteers. Providing access to them, as well as to countless archaeological monuments, Neolithic barrows and Second World War military sites is a crucial part of the Trust’s work and Inntravel are pleased to be helping fund this with your help.
Inntravel will make a contribution to support two keys projects in 2008:
The Farne Islands is one of the best places in Europe to see breeding sea birds, puffins and terns, almost within touching distance. These Northumberland islands are visited by 50,000 people each year and the Trust now needs £15000 to provide new access to the lighthouse on Inner Farne and to improve the facilities and information available to visitors.
The Lake District fells are more popular than ever with walkers. The work on tackling erosion has been going on for over 25 years and the impact of the boot, especially in the most popular part of the National Park, receives constant attention. Now the Trust is playing a crucial part in Fix the Fells, a partnership with the National Park Authority and Natural England. Many footpaths, such as the one from Esk Hause to Angle Tarn, have been walked by millions and hold treasured memories and just £13,800 will help to repair and prevent further damage to this wonderful route. Many other footpaths and bridleways, such as the path up Raise Beck, can benefit from Inntravel’s financial support.
