The Wild Side of Québec

Black Bear
Black bear, St Felicien Wildlife Park

Combine this exciting wildlife add-on with your holiday to Montréal, Québec and the Saguenay Fjord - Authentic Québec - to experience even more of this magnificent country. Canada is a vast and majestic land, much of it covered by unspoiled forested mountains, crystal-clear lakes and wide-open tundra. Early explorers and trappers ventured into this wilderness and were confronted by a host of wild animals. This unique add-on gives you the opportunity to relive the experiences of those early settlers.

The heritage of Québec

Waterfall
The waterfall, Val Jalbert

From Petit Saguenay, you drive north-west along the majestic Saguenay River to Lac Saint-Jean, stopping off along the way at Val Jalbert, a restored 1920s village and pulp mill, now a living museum, situated near amazing cataracts. On arrival in the workaday town of Saint Félicien, you stay one night at the simple, yet comfortable, Auberge des Berges.

Face to face with Canada's wildlife

Bison
Canadian Bison, St Felicien Wildlife Park

After breakfast, you join a small group for a guided tour through the Zoo Sauvage Wildlife Park, bringing you face to face with some of Canada’s most iconic animals. With access beyond that of the everyday visitor, you take a minibus tour, looking out for black bears, wolves, moose, caribou, bison, beavers, arctic foxes and skunks! Lunch is served in a trappers’ log cabin, by the trapper and his wife, after which you continue on foot through woods where moose roam free. At the pre-prepared campsite, in a vast secure wooded compound, you enjoy refreshments before a kayak trip across the lake at sunset.

The 'forest zone' of the park

After dinner round a log fire, you retire to your tent - the camp facilities are realistic and somewhat basic, but sleeping bags and bed rolls are provided, laid on a sweet-smelling bed of soft fir branches. You may see caribou wandering by during breakfast, after which you enjoy a final behind-the-scenes tour to witness the park’s feeding and veterinary programme.

Moose

On leaving the Wildlife Park, you rejoin the main itinerary at Tadoussac.
