New England Insights
Promising some unique discoveries, our Insights are private visits led by specialists, some of whom are your hosts. The feedback we receive is always full of praise, and we cannot recommend these privileged experiences too highly! With the exception of the wine-tasting, all visits must be booked through us in advance, though you pay locally. All prices are per person.
The Natural World of Vermont
Join Bruce Brown, Field Director of the Moosalamoo Association (Blueberry Hill innkeeper Tony Clark is President of this exceptional group), for a 2-hour discovery of the region he knows perhaps better than anyone. Bruce is one of the leading lights in the conservation group that has done such wonderful work in enhancing the magnificent environments of this tranquil corner of Vermont - the Moosalamoo Region was a finalist in the 2004 World Legacy Awards, a wonderful achievement. Bruce can really bring these landscapes to life, and explain how the habitats support such a rich wildlife, from the moose and black bear to the peregrine falcon and osprey. He can also reveal the rich diversity of the forest, and the abundant wild flowers. The visits must be booked with us in advance, and we ask that you donate a minimum of $25 per person to the Association.
Wine Tasting at Jackson
The Inn at Thorn Hill has an exceptional wine cellar, and we have made arrangements for Inntravel guests to join innkeeper Jim Cooper for a short wine-tasting aimed at introducing you to some of the distinctive flavours of American wines. This is provided exclusively for Inntravel guests and included in all stays at the inn. The inn is the ideal place to explore the world of American wine, with many good vintages also available by the glass.
Birds of Coastal Maine
During your time at the Ullikana, spend a morning or afternoon with Michael Good, a naturalist with 18 years' experience of New England. His speciality is the amazing local birdlife, and you can encounter species such as the bald eagle, osprey, peregrine falcon, great blue heron and pileated woodpecker, as well as a variety of shore birds. As these are private visits, Michael is happy to tailor the trips to your own interests, and he is a truly inspirational guide to the marvels of the Acadia National Park. The visits (around 4 hours) must be booked with us in advance, and cost approximately $75 per person, payable direct to Michael.
