City hotels in ItalyAll prices assume you are adding the hotel to another Inntravel holiday and include no travel element. Please read our notes on prices. Venice
VeronaWith its easy-going atmosphere and pretty streets lined with pink-hued
medieval buildings, it is hard not to be seduced by Verona's charms. Given
the city's rich and colourful history, there is a wealth of sites to discover,
not least several superbly preserved Roman monuments – the Arena,
Roman theatre, Porta dei Borsari and Pietra Bridge. Other highlights include the
fascinating collection of paintings and artefacts housed in the Castelvecchio,
the elaborate Gothic tombs of the Scaliger family, and the magnificent
Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore, one of the most important Romanesque churches
in northern Italy, decorated with 12th-century reliefs and frescoes. Though the two rival families at the centre of Shakespeare's famous tragedy Romeo and Juliet did exist – the Montecchi (Montague) family supported the Pope while the
Cappello (Capulet) family supported the Emperor – the fable of the two
lovers is an old folk tale that had been circulating in northern Italy
for centuries. Nevertheless, you can visit Juliet's house (the Casa di
Giulietta) on Via Cappello and make a wish while standing underneath the
balcony – it is said that all those relating to love will eventually come
true.

Rome
is one of those cities you want to visit again and again, discovering
new treasures, and enjoying new views of favourite places. The city can
often appear to be a wonderful, chaotic stage show, but it is surprisingly
easy to find quiet corners along the river or on the Gianicolo hill above
St Peter's. After years of closure, the Galleria Borghese has reopened
and is quite magnificent. Discover the elegant mansions of Via Giulia,
the bustle and atmosphere of the Campo de'Fiori (a great place for an
aperitif of prosecco), the magnificence of the Vatican City. Before you leave, don't
forget to throw a euro into the Trevi Fountain to ensure your next visit!
In a street off the Via del Corso, one of Rome's main shopping streets
and the eastern boundary of the Centro Storico, the 3-star Mozart is within
easy walking distance of many great sights, including the Spanish Steps,
Piazza del Popolo and the shaded gardens of the Villa Borghese. The hotel
has 56 well-equipped and air-conditioned bedrooms, a sitting room and
panoramic roof garden. When this is full, we offer the Hotel Valadier, located just one street back from the Piazza del Popolo. Once a convent,
this is now a comfortable and elegant 4-star establishment, enhanced with plenty
of polished wood, marble and mirrors. There are 60 well-appointed, air-conditioned
rooms as well as a lounge, piano bar and smart restaurant with rooftop
terrace. The prices below are for the Hotel Mozart.

Sometimes
chaotic, often noisy and always bursting with energy, Naples, capital
of the Mezzogiorno (land of the midday sun) and the birthplace of pizza, is the very essence
of Italian brio. The setting is glorious – the sweeping arc of
the Bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvius, the pretty islands of Capri, Ischi
and Procida. But the real joy of a break here is to explore the compact
centre, packed not just with magnificent monuments like the Renaissance
Porta Capuana, the unique Castel Nuovo and dozens of wonderful churches,
but brimming with the hustle and bustle of everyday life – little markets,
pavement cafés, tempting restaurants. Don't miss the Museo Archeologico
Nazionale, which houses a superb collection of mosaics and frescoes from
nearby Pompeii.
Converted from an early 20th-century aristocrat's villa, the Miramare is a friendly
4-star hotel located right on the seafront, close to the Castel dell'Ovo.
The original Art Nouveau elegance has been retained throughout the hotel,
and the 30 bedrooms, all with air conditioning, are well-appointed. The
roof terrace is an ideal place to relax and admire the views of the bay. We also offer the 2-star Pension Pinto-Storey, a short walk from the Villa Comunale
and close, too, to the funicular station linking to other parts of the
city. Some of the 25 well-equipped bedrooms have views of the Bay of Naples
(supplement payable). The late 19th-century building also has a small
sitting area. The prices below are for the Hotel Miramare.

Palermo, capital of Sicily, is a thrilling city, and its blend of architectural styles – from Saracen to Baroque, Arabic to Spanish, and Byzantine to Norman – makes it truly unique. Amid all this are verdant gardens, oases of tranquillity sheltered from the bustle of everyday city life.
The 4-star Hotel Principe di Villafranca, a highly elegant blend of old and new, is a great base for exploring.
