Silent and dramatic, the highland region above Lillehammer – which rose to fame as the setting for the 1994 Winter Olympics – is perfect for an away-from-it-all holiday. Dotted across these rolling fells are many small settlements that are linked by wonderfully maintained cross-country ski trails that beckon you to explore the forests, moorland and frozen lakes.

As you would expect from a domain that hosted the cross-country ski events for the Lillehammer Winter Olympics in 1994, at Sjusjøen there really are miles and miles of trails. This means that it does attract some very keen skiers, but beginners and novices shouldn't be put off… Indeed, there are plenty of easier routes to choose from.
