  • great downhill and cross-country for all
  • cosy self-catering log cabins
  • close to the lively village
  • ideal for families

The great mountain moorland region of Hardangervidda lies above the fjords of western Norway, a snowy wilderness that is a paradise for winter holidays. Here, set by a frozen lake, the lively village of Geilo is renowned for its relaxed atmosphere and superb skiing – cross-country ski trails start from the foot of the village and link to the extensive ski domain in the fells above, while there is also easy access to the fantastic downhill pistes.
Geilo has a very laid-back, sleepy feel, its hotels scattered around the centre. There is a small shopping area, a few restaurants and a bar or two. It is a world away from the hustle and bustle of a mainstream Alpine resort, and all the better for it.

Staff travel diary
With this irresistible combination of a good-sized, friendly village and equally fantastic cross-country and downhill skiing, it is no surprise that Geilo is a place with a very wide appeal, attracting families with children of all ages (including teenagers) during the school holidays, and couples looking for some great skiing during the quieter months of January and March. The Bardøla Hotel’s cosy log cabins enable you to enjoy all that Geilo has to offer, with the added flexibility and freedom that a self-catering holiday brings.
