personal guide in the mountains
Morocco is a tapestry of colours. In Marrakesh, these range from the brilliant green, blue and white tiles of the mosques to the earthy ochre of the ramparts, and from the rich reds of the rugs to the deep pinks of the flowers in the gardens. In the High Atlas Mountains, brown slopes contrast with both the snow on the lofty peaks and the green valleys far below...
We couldn’t have wished for a more courteous and patient guide. Though he always walked in front, Mobarrak never rushed us, and walked at our pace, happy to let us stop as frequently as we liked.
Inntravel staff travel diary
To explore the valleys that nestle far below Djebel Toubkal is to discover far-reaching views and surprisingly fertile landscapes coated with orchards, almond groves and wheat fields, and dotted with hamlets built of adobe that clamber up the slopes. After a day in vibrant and chaotic Marrakesh, the wide-open spaces and the tranquillity of the mountains come as a real contrast.
Extend your stay
For a complete contrast and some fresh sea air, add three nights in Essaouira on the Atlantic Coast. With its ancient walls and archways, sheltered bay and bustling harbour, it’s a delightful place to relax, to explore the winding cobbled streets of the medina, or to stroll along the seafront and sample delicious fresh fish dishes at open air restaurants after watching the fishermen bring in their catch. Stay at one of our carefully selected riads, stylish hotels reflecting both the atmosphere and charm of this lovely city and offering first-class hospitality.
