Just over an hour’s drive east of Marrakesh, through increasingly bucolic scenery with views over to the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains, lies hill-top Kasbah Timdaf – very much off the tourist trail and perfectly in tune with our philosophy of travelling slowly. Arriving here is like travelling back in time into the very heart of an impressionist painting – clear skies and the rich colours of the landscape merging into one harmonious background of blues, oranges, yellows and greens, given an extra boost in the spring when flowers carpet the land and the delicate scent of herbs and spices fills the warm air.
The hosts are absolutely fantastic! They have done an excellent job of creating this home-from-home in Morocco. If you want to relax and take your time to think about life, this is the place...

Just as Demnate, the nearest town, offers a more laidback atmosphere than its boisterous neighbour, Marrakesh – whose kaleidoscopic whirl you get to experience at the end of your holiday – so Kasbah Timdaf exudes an air of serenity, inviting you to unwind. Indeed, you may find it hard to tear yourself away from the palatial interior with its cool corners and ornate furnishings, and the lush, flower-filled gardens beyond which the mighty Atlas dominate the distant horizon. But that would be a shame as the surrounding area offers fascinating walks through idyllic landscapes, where smiling people greet you as you explore traditional villages and green river valleys that hide awe-inspiring natural wonders.
