Siena is a jewel among the magical Renaissance cities of Tuscany and the perfect place to begin your discovery of this fascinating region, the Crete Senesi. Linger in the city's world-famous piazza, Il Campo, where an extraordinary sense of history pervades, before following quiet trails through quintessential Tuscan landscapes.
It's hard to judge what makes Tuscany so special - the wonderful art and architecture of Siena or the staggeringly beautiful landscapes.
With characteristic cypress trees piercing the blue skies beneath a brilliant sun, the rolling countryside south of Siena is a wonderful place to walk and discover the quiet side of Tuscany. You walk through a timeless region of great natural beauty and wide-open spaces that lead you on to atmospheric Montalcino, perched on a hilltop amid the vineyards that produce the superlative Brunello di Montalcino wines.
