The Amalfi Coast & Villages

We had a wonderful week walking in Amalfi, seeing the sights, enjoying the food and wine and making friends with other walkers on the same holiday. The Path of the Gods and coming down in to Positano was the highlight of the walking and staying at Hotel Puppeto - quiet but so close to the main part of Positano was great.

The Inntravel booking team were very helpful, as they organised our holiday around a wedding in Ravello. We thoroughly enjoyed our Amalfi coastal walks, especially the day we walked to Amalfi. It is useful to check the bus timetable when getting the bus to Bomerano from Amalfi, as we had to wait for a couple of hours. The holiday although, some of the walking was challenging was great.

Loved hotels and all transfers were smooth and on time. Views lovely. But trails were often poorly marked and poorly maintained. Way more challenging than advertised.

This was a great way to see the Amalfi coast. The combination of the walking (which is great, if a little challenging) and the time you get to spend in the locations mean it feels more than just a walking holiday. However, you're always doing a lot of walking just exploring! We particularly enjoyed Ravello. It is an expensive area to eat and drink, but to be expected given its international reputation. 

In Positano we had a lovely lunch in the luscious setting of 'Max' Restaurant and Art Gallery and a dinner overlooking the twinkly harbour at Ristorante Don Giovanni.  

We thoroughly enjoyed this holiday. We have been travelling with Inntravel for thirty years and found the accommodation much more luxurious than on most of our previous trips. Walking in hot September weather we very much appreciated being able to swim at each hotel afterwards. The walking was surprisingly varied and our highlight was definitely the walk through the spectacular Valle delle Ferriere national park. We extended the holiday by staying for three days in Sorrento which meant we could visit Pompeii from there and did not miss out on the fascinating monastery tour and excellent first day's walk from Corpo de Cava. 

We were blessed with fabulous weather to explore this tremendous coastline and really enjoyed our holiday. Hotels were clean and food overall to a good standard. If staying at the Hotel Scapolatiello make use of the bus service or get a taxi into Cava Di Terreni to explore this town, and give you options for something to do in the afternoon. Hotel Bonadies and Ravello were great with a moderate walk down to Amalfi or a bus service if you don't want to walk. Amalfi town well worth a visit. Would have preferred to stay here rather than in Bomerano which is a bit scruffy. Path of the Gods walk was breathtakingly beautiful and a bit hair raising in places. Positano was very busy even in October but great all the same. The Hotel Pupetto is in a quieter location but make sure you pay for an upgraded room to avoid disappointment. Be prepared for lots of steps in Positano and a long walk to the collection point on departure day. Where you can, use the public beach area at Fornillo beach, even with hotel residents discount 2 x loungers cost €45 per day. Overall a great time. Thanks.

The quality of the three hotels apart from the Due Torri were sublime, the routes were stunning if challenging, the people transfers were very well organised and the food provided was filling and delicious.

We had the most amazing holiday with Inntravel, seamlessly organised and so well planned. Our personal highlights included summiting Plattkofel on beautiful clear day in the Dolomites and exploring Positano and getting a boat trip to Capri whilst still having time to walk the coastline daily.

This is the way to see the Amalfi Coast! The little towns are pretty but so very busy - even late in the season - but with these walks you see them in the context of the stunning mountains and coastline that they are set among. We loved how they came slowly into view, with each step revealing a new perspective until, finally you were down in the streets. Each walk brought us a new vista and we travelled through scenary that ranged from busy streets to high cliff tops and from lemon and olive groves to pine-scented mountains. Very easy to get to Pompei from Corpo di Cava - great train service.

The walk recommended from Corpo di Cavi to the clifftop lookout is fine but we had two days there and while others did the same walk a second time we did a very pleasant walk towards Vetri through woodland. The snag is that it is difficult to approach Vetri except on the very busy main road so we did not attempt that. The walk starts at the same point as the recommended walk, you just turn left after crosssing the stream instead of right. This would be an excellent alternative walk if Inntravel people could find a way of getting into Vetri other than on the main road, as the town is one of the most interesting on the coast by all accounts. We enjoyed all the other recommended walks by the way in particular the circular walk from Ravello down to Amalfi. There is an excellent restaurant on the route about a mile short of Amalfi but it was full and we had to make do with a delicious lemon drink instead of lunch. It is a family-run agritourismo.

Absolutely splendid holiday! The walking routes were varied each day and we saw so much more of the area than if we weren't on a walking holiday. Everything was so seamless! It was the perfect trip for my 50th birthday and I can't wait to take more trips with Inntravel!

Some lovely hikes around Amalfi coast. Walks from Sorrento were ok but needed some travel to get to and from rather than from the hotel direct.

You will get stellar photos, truly unbelievable sights, on this hike. The food & wine are top notch. There were still crowds in early September in the obvious Amalfi & Positano. The other towns and for most of the hikes there were no crowds, only the Bomerano to Positano trail was busy.

We loved every bit of our holiday, I did it with my husband in 2018 (he passed away in August 2022). This time I took my sister and two of my friends. I could feel I am 5 years older now, but we still had a lovely time. I have recommended using Inntravel to lots of friends and relatives.

Personal highlights - Loved walking through the pretty little villages, we saw many local weddings around Ravello and Scala on our travels, it was nice to see. When we stayed in Positano we did boat trips to Sorrento and Capri which were easy to do from the harbour. Enjoyed seeing many different places along the way and the views were amazing especially the first view of Positano on the path of the gods walk.

The walks were well-chosen with magnificent views, shady woodland, lemon groves and wild flowers. They gave us the opportunity to go off the beaten track, as well as along the popular and stunning Path of the Gods and into the picturesque Amalfi coastal towns.

Ravello is a gem; sitting outside the bar near the town hall at the top of the village drinking negronis and listening to the bar's resident flautist was very relaxing indeed. Eat at Cumpo Cosimo - the food is authentic Italian, with great service overseen by the wonderful matriarch, who spontaneously reduced our bill and gave us a complimentary tiramisu. Villa Cimbrone and its gardens is one of the most beautiful places we have seen.
Ristorante Giovanni in Turin (optional add on) is v classy with superb food.
Positano is extremely busy and crowded; it was wonderful being away from it all at Hotel Pupetto.
Umberto in Naples (optional add on) is a few doors from the Palazzo Alabardieri, and serves brilliant food. The cloisters of the Santa Chiara monastery are an amazing oasis of tranquility and artistic beauty, and the fresh orange juice from the trees is lovely.
The Path of the Gods is one of life's great experiences, as is the small bar Il Chiosco half way along. It has home-made food and incredible views from the balcony.

As a couple of 75 year olds we were delighted at the end of each day to be weary but ready for the next day's challenge.

The range of walks was a wonderful way to enjoy the Amalfi coast.

We had the gpx electronic maps with the recommended Komoot app but the gps signal was inadequate in all the walking locations. 

As a package the Amalfi Coast was well put together although we avoided the first days walk, which was heavily wooded and uphill, preferring a walk from the hotel to Vietri sul Mare and back to experience the first coastal town on the Amalfi Coast. Generally we followed the recommended routes but the maps gave a good basis on which to plan alternative routes which any good self guided holiday should be all about. Sorrento and Naples were disappointing by comparison although our trip to Pompeii was both remarkable and unforgettable.

We loved the Valle delle Ferriere section of the walk, completely unexpected dramatic scenery and away from the hustle and bustle of the coast. We also really enjoyed walking up to the monastery in Corpo di Cava as throughout the rest of the week we kept catching glances of it in the distance. It was a great trip to enjoy incredible coastal views and get a feel for the glamour of the Amalfi Coast. As the walking often takes you up into the hills, there were fewer swimming opportunities during the hot days than we were hoping for. 

We loved each walk that we did. We enjoyed the varied landscapes i.e. one walk could include walking high on the mountains above the coast, travelling through a lush, green nature reserve and finally walking down many steps into a picturesque seaside town.

We have done many Inntravel holidays over the years and this has to be one of the best. The walks were no more challenging than they should be at Grade 2 and whilst they do involve a fair bit of climbing and desending they are not overly long so we just took our time and enjoyed the fabulous views. Some of our favourite photos are of the many water breaks we took, sitting on stone steps in the cool shade just blown away by the scenery. I could go back and do this whole trip again. Every single step of it.

We enjoyed the hotels at Corpo di Cava and Ravello the most and were very glad to have added an extra night in Ravello in order to spend a day at Villa Cimbrone. The gardens are a peaceful oasis as well as being incredibly beautiful. In Ravello we had dinner at Osteria Ravello and then Babel Wine Bar which each offered a very different experience but both were excellent. We reserved tables during the course of the day as we wandered passed and were glad to have planned ahead as anyone who had not booked had a long wait wherever we went. The staff a Hotel Pupetto in Positano deserve a special mention. We had a problem with our room on the first night and the hotel owner stepped in to resolve it immediate without any fuss. All of the staff we encountered in the restaurant, bar and reception were outstanding. When we booked the trip we were a bit unsure about staying in a hotel located away from the main town of Positano but in practice it was the perfect location. Being right on the beach meant we could sleep with the doors open and listen to the waves, whilst it was only a 5-10 minute picturesque walk into the heart of Positano. Along the route is a restaurant called Lo Guarracino. We ended up eating there for two nights in the row it was so good. As in Ravello, we booked in advance and I am certain that our attempt at basic Italian influenced the decision to make room for us. Listening to a rapid Italian audio lession for a couple of weeks before the trip was very easy, enjoyable and made our interactions with the locals alot more fun.

Finally, I should mention the walk on Capri, which you can do by taking a ferry from Positano to the island. It was well worth the cost of the ferry and the visit to Villa Lysis on the route is just out of this world - entry was only 1.5 euros at the time.

As always, a well organised trip when using Inntravel. The holiday to the Amalfi Coast was our third trip using Inntravel and we are already planning our next. The routes provided allow you to get off the beaten track and to explore areas of a renowned destination that you just wouldn't otherwise see. A great mix of isolated routes and the famous (and thus busier) 'Walk of the Gods' route. The hotels selected were of good quality and location. The trip is probably for the more physically fit as the routes are very steep in places, but the views more than outweigh the effort you need to put in.

Another fantastic walking holiday from Inntravel.

We had a wonderful time on this holiday. We were challenged at the beginning with bad weather (rain on our arrival day and some rain on our first full day), but then we had relatively tolerable weather with the exception of several isolated rainstorms that thankfully didn't last long. I would have loved to explore Corpo di Cava more, but that's on us -- we didn't really feel like exploring in the rain on our arrival. As far as our accommodation cities went our favorite was Ravello, despite the tourist hordes (and us being two of them!) The included dinner at Hotel Bonadies was also our favorite of the included dinners. Their caprese salad was the best we sampled in all of Italy (and we were there for 4 weeks sampling MANY of them -- including on the InnTravel Lake Iseo holiday). Our best dinner in Positano was surprisingly at the Hotel Pupetto on the last night.  We were not particularly excited about our other dinner choices -- not bad, but nothing I'd go out of my way to recommend. 

We really enjoyed the routes.  If I had to rank them, I would say the two days on the Valle delle Ferriere trails were my favorites, with the hike on the upper trail to get to Bomerano my top favorite.  The views were breathtaking, and the trails had good variety in terms of terrain and interesting features. Most times we felt like we had the paths to ourselves -- only occasionally encountering another hiker. I loved visiting the Torre dello Ziro, too -- we even climbed up to the top which was really cool. We also loved the Sentiero dei Limoni on the hike from Maiori to Ravello!  The weather held out for us while we climbed those endless steps to the convent.  At that point the rain started and we donned full rain gear (jacket and pants) but it was still lovely (psychologically I think it is worse to have to START in the rain, as opposed to having it rain partway through). It was neat that we could see the convent from the dining room at the Hotel Bonadies and get a real feel for where we had hiked that day. On the day we walked the Sentiero degli Dei we followed InnTravel's advice and got an early start.  This, combined with the fact that it rained on and off, meant we had the trail mostly to ourselves.  While this trail certainly had some breathtaking views I'm not sure why it is more popular than some of the others!  Another favorite was the Around Positano walk up to Santa Maria del Castello.  There were so many wildflowers in bloom and some of the best views of the whole trip.

We met another Inntravel couple who were on the same general itinerary and we loved to share notes with them at breakfast and in the evening about what we thought of the various hikes and what our plans were for the next day.

We enjoyed excellent, well chosen walks through some absolutely stunning scenery. It's a great way to see the Amalfi Coast - much better to do it on foot rather than by car. All the hotels were friendly and welcoming, rooms were spacious and meals were delicious. If we could have changed one thing it would have been the weather, but even Inntravel can't control that! Despite the rain, our spirits were never dampened and we completed every walk. Fortunately our efforts were rewarded with sunshine at the end!

We had a great time, the walks were made more challenging because of the heavy rain which we had for several days. A sense of achievement when we completed all walks!

This must be the best way to explore the Amalfi coast, away from the crowds, but still visiting all the highlights of the region.  The scenery is spectacular, and the people extremely welcoming.  Inntravel arranged everything perfectly, we stayed in wonderful hotels, ate amazing food and really appreciated the detailed notes, describing not only the fantastic walks in great detail, but also giving restaurant suggestions and background information to the region.

The walks were all good but the highlight for us was Valle de Ferriere. The Museo Nazionale in Napoli is a very useful introduction to Pompeii. The MAR Positano Villa Romana is a must see in Positano. It gives a fascinating insight into the task of excavating Roman ruins in this area, as well as showing the layers of history built on top. We recommend Osteria Ravello on Via Madonna where we ate twice. We had the best pizza of the holiday in an unprepossessing local pizzeria, A. Gradillo in Ravello. The stand out meal in Sorrento was at La Lanterna. We also ate at its sister restaurant, L'Abate, where the food was also good but the service was more pushy. We had beautiful pasta at Ristorante Le Grazie in Sorrento.

It was a very successful holiday and we loved the walks which were challenging at times without being too strenuous. The walks in the Valle delle Ferriere were particularly enjoyable, stunning scenery. We felt we got much more out of the holiday by walking in the area, then we would have done on a driving holiday.

In Ravello we had one meal at the Vittoria which was good.

In Positano the restaurant at the hotel was good we also had a very good enjoyable meal at Lo Guarracino

It's beautiful. We had a good time. I would kindly suggest you explain to potential clients what exactly is involved with these steps etc. Looking forward to booking another trip soon. 

For 4+km of the Corpo di Cava to Ravello walk we were accompanied by a very friendly goat who refused to leave our side, even when passing a large group of German hikers picnicking at the San Nicola convent. We parted company when we reached the road at Sambuco where a kindly local took him off our hands! The walks were all well planned out and offered superb views high above the mad throngs of tourists in Amalfi and Positano. Our uniquely personal experiences were further highlighted by our nights stay at the Hotel due Torri, whe were at the time hosting a large part of Exodus travellers, some of whom were taking part in guided walks for 20+ and others being bussed to the hotspots of Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento. We had a superb late lunch at the Positano restaurant Da Vincenzo and this was one of the top two meals we had on our holiday. The other was at the Babel Wine Bar, Deli & Art in Ravello. Only a small place so it's advisable to book. The place served an extensive list of home made pasta dishes, all recited to you by the very friendly owner at your table.

Good mix of walks and towns, from mountains to coastline. Apart from hotel in Corpo de Cava, there is nowhere else to eat or drink. And only one mini market for supplies, but be aware of finishing walk around siesta time as nothing will be open. Luigi's Bar in Ravello has a great location and delicious snacks, away from the crowds. Cafe Positano on Via Pasitea in Positano - lovely views, good food and close to taxi pick-up point when leaving.

The walk through the Riserva Stale Valle delle Ferriere was beautiful and the highlight of my week. The 'Path of the Gods' was so very busy that it did detract from the experience

The Amalfi Coast is a marvellous area and we enjoyed our Inntravel holiday despite not being able to do all the walks.  In early April it was much cooler than we expected and especially in the evenigns and early morning we needed our warmest clothes and  not Tshirts and shorts!  The roads are very narrow steep and windy and I was very glad not to be driving myself! We particulary enjoyed Ravello and the wonderful gardens there.  Positano whilst very pretty is full of tourists and tourist shops even at the start of the season.

We have enjoyed a number of Inntravel self-guided walking trips, and this was one of the best so far! The accommodation was really excellent, with 4 delicious dinners included. The walking provided challenge, but a good variety of terrain - if you don't count the steps.  We were glad to be quite fit to participate. Scenery was spectacular.

Thank you Inntravel. Another wonderful holiday. Quiet walks in beautiful woodland with scenic views to the coast, the only busy walk was Path of The Gods, and this was anticipated. All the hotel accommodations were excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful. The Hotel Pupetto was a fantastic place to end our walk with a beautiful sea view and balcony to enjoy it.

We used train/bus to Pompeii from out first hotel. I would advise using  taxi both ways. The bus transfers from the train was unpredictable. It was a sunday, so possibly not the best day.. Pompeii was fascinating a d well worth visiting. 

The visit to Capri was lovely.  The walk was brilliant and taking our own packed lunch was good advice. The restaurants were busy.

Walking The Amalfi Coast is up there as one of our best holidays.  The organisation by Inntravel was excellent, the walks were easy to follow and although sometimes challenging, were so rewarding; they made every knee popping, mosquito biting, exhausting minute, worth it! The Amalfi coastal towns are so pretty, however, the only way to see this beautiful part of the world is to walk the coast. The scenery was breath-taking and as you walk along the paths looking down on these beautiful coastal towns in the distance, feeling like you are the only ones ever to have walked this path, it feels like you are in paradise.  We can't wait to do our next one!

We travel with Inntravel as your walks are so interesting and diverse. The walking notes are excellent and the accommodation is always so interesting and of a great standard no matter what the star rating is. For us, as older walkers, it was challenging with the climbing up and down but that was explained on your website so we were prepared. All the information in the walking notes is up to date and the facts provided are interesting and add to the experience. The add ons, especially Sorrento and Naples, made it a lovely extended holiday.

Quality of hotels very good and lovely welcoming receptionists. Luggage always delivered without an issue. Taxi drivers, friendly, large comfortable vehicles and most informative. Local residents on walks went out of their way to offer us their homegrown produce, lemons, figs, grapes :) Italy pleased to see visitors return. Be aware of number of steps climbed and descended if you have any knee issues - they are relentless. Amazing meal at Hotel de Torri - very tasty meat and fish barbecue. No swimming pool at Hotel Parsifal even though listed in details. Great house wines at most establishments. Lovely to eat outside on most evenings. Visitors be aware - MOSQUITOES take antihistamine as creams such as antisthane just are not enough. If visiting CAPRI - would recommend walkway to Capri Central rather than wait for furnicular.  If visiting Pompeii be aware that very little shade so 4/5 hours quite exhausting - perhaps book for a cloudier day. Train disruption at the moment can take hours to reach Pompeii due to temporary buses so we took a taxi.

We have mentioned the quality of Scapolatiello and Parsifal earlier, but all the hotels were good and this is an important aspect of the InnTravel offering , in our opinion.

We said that the degree of difficulty of the walks was about right, and for the average punter we believe this to be the case. However, the average age of our party was 69 and we found it a little on the demanding side. I cannot recall what description you used for the standard required , so this is not a criticism. What is more tedious is the extent to which road walking is necessary in order to come up with an adequate walking distance to meet the distance requirements and to move the overall walk forwards to its next staging posts. We counteracted this by hitchhiking the last mile on day 2 and covering the first 2 miles by taxi on day 4. Whilst you obviously can't recommend hitching, you may wish to consider offering taxi options on some stages. The additional cost to the punter is very small in the overall scheme of things.

Thoroughly enjoyed this walking trip, fully met my expectations. The walks chosen were varied and very lovely. Hotels in great locations, good service and welcome at them all and food was good. Transfer of bags all went well and the transfers were great. 

Yet another fantastically organised holiday by this excellent travel firm. The Amalfi Coast is truly an inspirational place to visit and the term 'Pathway of the Gods' could be used for almost every walk. The walking was challenging and highly rewarding (a good Grade 2), the views are magnificent everywhere, whether walking high above the coast and looking down on the beautiful coastline villages and boats, or walking into the stunningly beautiful and quiet Valle delle Ferriere Nature Reserve. As ever, the hotels were magnificent, local food lovely and all were ideally placed to explore the local areas. They were also staffed with wonderful people who want us to be there. Overall a lovely holiday that will stay with us for a very long time - thank you very much for arranging everything so well. You know that we will be back for more!

Enjoyed the walking very much despite it being unseasonably hot. Did the Sentiero del Fortini but would like to warn others that there is a long wait for buses at Anacapri back to the port so leave plenty of time. Enjoyed the restaurant Da Gigino at Sorrento- and the Path of the Gods and Sentiero del Fortini were highlights of our trip. Also enjoyed our visits to Pompei and Herculaneum. 

One of the quotes we saw from a literary giant said that no words could describe how beautiful the Amalfi Coast is. If he couldn't find the words, I won't even try as I could never do it justice.

A personal highlight was the town of Ravello, a perfect accompaniment to the walking. Well worth an extra night as we spent the whole day enjoying the beautiful villas and gardens, imagining ourselves part of the Bloomsbury Group.

It was an absolutely fantastic holiday, surpassed our expectations. The walking was sublime and the detailed instructions were excellent. All the hotels were lovely. All the transport was clean and prompt. We would definitely book with Inntravel again. Would recommend the new archaeological museum in Positano as worth a visit. Marpositano. Villa Cimbrone in Ravello and Villa Lysis in Capri both stunning.

Highlights:

The staggering dramatic scenery. The genuine welcome of hotel and most restaurant or cafe staff. Be prepared for many, many steps whilst walking. 

Restaurants:  Ravello, Mimi Bar/Pizzeria was brilliant. Booking advisable. Sorrento, La Lantera was disappointing. Very average food and on the expensive side. La Cazzarola, recommended by the Hotel Regina receptionist was very good and not expensive. Many restaurants in the centre of Sorrento have "whippers in", to me always a sign of indifferent catering. 
Picnic supplies, Corpo di Cava. There is a grocers immediately down the hill from the Scapolatiello run by an American. Chatty and willing to let one sample the cheese etc. before making up sandwiches. Ravello, Soon after leaving the hotels on the day 4 route there is a grocers on the left (Via Lacco?). Good for picnic and be prepared for decisions on type of bread, cheese, salad and garnish. 

Wonderful scenery, but beware the relentless steps up and down!!

The Path of the Gods walk was absolutely breathtaking.

The holiday was fantastic. Inntravel bespoked the holiday to suit my group's time restrictions which was great. The transfers were particularly good. The transport was very comfortable and the drivers were very friendly and informative. Inntravel were flexible when we wanted to change our plans slightly and we appreciated being able to communicate with them even at the weekend. We were happy with all the hotels. Hotel Polpetto had a beautiful location in Positano, with its own beach and our room and balconies and views were great. However the food at dinner was unfortunatley unsatisfactory. The menu looked lovely but the different dishes we had were very bland although breakfast was better. It should also maybe just be noted that one of the locations where the taxis pick from this hotel was very difficult to get to, a very steep climb up many steps.

Both restaurants recommended by you in Positano v good. Da Vincenzo lovely for night and Lo Guarracino excellent for lunch. Need to reserve all restaurants to avoid disappointment all v busy even in

in Oct. Food excellent. Wine can be expensive in restaurants more so than at home - cheapest bottle usually about 30 euro

Hard to pick any specific highlights as it was all good. We loved Ravello (who doesn't?), and the location of the hotel was excellent. All the hotels were good but the welcome and food at the Hotel Due Torri were exceptional. Well worth doing the optional final day walk at Positano which we found very enjoyable. Overall a great holiday and a very positive experience all round.

The Amalfi Coast was the perfect walking holiday for us, mother (70) and daughter (41)! A great walk every day and also time to explore the pretty towns of Amalfi! Great hotels with character!

We had originally planned to go to the Greek islands, but that tour was canceled a month before our departure, so we did some quick recalculating and took this trip as our Plan B, and we were happy we did! This was a wonderful holiday to an incredible location! Possibly due to Covid, we saw very few tourists most of the trip, which was delightful! Cruises are up and running, so Amalfi was crowded near the port. The hotels and included meals were excellent in all regards, with incredible selections available. As we were two women traveling together, but with separate rooms, we had charming rooms next to each other, some with our own shared sitting area! The Italians take the wearing of masks and vaccines VERY seriously. We even had our credentials checked by military police in a Naples train station, as well as any entry to an indoor shop or restaurant. The walks were scenic, but come prepared for steps! One day our tracker said we climbed 180 sets of stairs in 5+ hours! And that did not include downhill steps! Directions were good, although we were challenged a time or two not to miss a turn.
