The Ligurian Riviera, which stretches from the French border all the way to Tuscany, is marked by its drama: wooded slopes plunge towards the Mediterranean, where fishing ports and small resorts of tall, brightly painted houses huddle in small bays and sandy coves. Naturally, fish and seafood dominate the local cuisine, as does pesto and unusual white wines such as Sciacchetrà .
The Ligurian Riviera is one of the natural wonders of Italy, where wooded mountains tumble steep down to the Mediterranean, and fishing ports nestle in sandy coves.
This delightful break focuses on the famed Cinque Terre (the ‘Five Lands’), where we suggest some superb walks along the quieter high paths, and romantic Portovenere. The area offers some of Europe’s finest (and justly popular) coastal walking and, as you explore, you enjoy endlessly changing views. Please book well in advance (or travel in spring and autumn, which are quieter) to avoid disappointment.
