If you are flying home from vibrant
Barcelona
or beautiful
Girona
, add on a city break for a contrast to your walk.
Why not take the train?
You can leave London St Pancras or Ebbsfleet in the morning and be at your destination by the evening, making it an excellent (not to mention environmentally friendly) way to reach this holiday. You can relax right from the start of your journey as Eurostar services whisk you through the Channel Tunnel to connect with the world-famous French high-speed TGV trains in either Paris or Lille. We reserve seats for you, there is plenty of luggage space, and refreshments are available on board.
You may even break your journey in Paris if you are travelling via the capital. Sit back and enjoy a truly great rail journey! Look for the ‘by rail’ prices in the Prices & Travel section, where you will also find journey details.

walk from France into Spain
Bathed in warm Mediterranean sunshine, and with the final peaks of the Pyrenees providing a dramatic backdrop, the coast either side of the Franco-Spanish border invites exploration on foot. This is Catalonia, vibrant and proud of its distinct culture, and to walk between the charming fishing villages that nestle along its coast on both sides of the frontier is a joy, passing small, rocky coves, craggy headlands and rugged cliffs, below which the sea sparkles in the bright sunlight.
As I skirted the rugged Cap de Ras, the air held that wonderful smell of earth after rain. Under the cliffs the sea lay calm, the water so clear I could make out the bristling shapes of urchins on the rocks below.
Brian Jackman, The Sunday Times
Unsurprisingly, the coast (in French the Côte Vermeille, in Spanish the Costa Brava) and its fishing villages have long attracted many artists, among them Dalí, Picasso and Matisse, who were drawn by the bright Mediterranean light. By walking from Collioure to Cadaqués along the coast, you will discover for yourself the lure and enchantment that this delightful area has held for so many artists.
