Why not take the train?
You can leave London St Pancras or Ebbsfleet in the morning and be at your destination by the evening, making it an excellent (not to mention environmentally friendly) way to reach this holiday. You can relax right from the start of your journey as Eurostar services whisk you through the Channel Tunnel to connect with the world-famous French high-speed TGV trains in either Paris or Lille. We reserve seats for you, there is plenty of luggage space, and refreshments are available on board.
You may even break your journey in Paris if you are travelling via the capital. Sit back and enjoy a truly great rail journey! Look for the ‘by rail’ prices in the Prices & Travel section, where you will also find journey details.

explore medieval Albi
distinctive regional cuisine
The landscape of the Tarn is Mediterranean in character. The beautiful small city of Albi nestles on the River Tarn's banks, dominated by its magnificent cathedral whose fortifications are testimony to more turbulent times during which Albi and surrounding settlements such as Ambialet were attacked first as part of the crusades to suppress the Cathar heresy and later in the Wars of Religion.
This classic walk leads eastwards from medieval Albi through the Tarn Valley, a wonderful progression from rolling hills into ever more dramatic countryside.
As you walk eastwards from Albi through the Tarn Valley, you pass villages of mellow stone-work, and discover varied landscapes, the vineyards and wooded hills soon giving way to countryside which is more southern in character, with cork oaks and cypress trees. Unspoiled and full of cultural interest, the Tarn is a wonderfully rewarding region. Staying in comfortable hotels, you will discover the distinctive, rich cuisine of the region, and its excellent wines, such as the flinty Gaillac whites.
