Why not take the train?
You can leave London St Pancras or Ebbsfleet in the morning and be at your destination by the evening, making it an excellent (not to mention environmentally friendly) way to reach this holiday. You can relax right from the start of your journey as Eurostar services whisk you through the Channel Tunnel to connect with the world-famous French high-speed TGV trains in either Paris or Lille. We reserve seats for you, there is plenty of luggage space, and refreshments are available on board.
You may even break your journey in Paris if you are travelling via the capital. Sit back and enjoy a truly great rail journey! Look for the ‘by rail’ prices in the Prices & Travel section, where you will also find journey details.
self-guided hotel-to-hotel walking, luggage transported
ever-changing landscapes and wonderful views
picturesque villages
delicious regional cuisine
The sunny Dordogne Valley, one of the oldest-inhabited areas of France, offers lots to delight the visitor, not least a rich and flavoursome regional cuisine featuring truffles, foie gras and wild mushrooms, and beautiful, ever-changing landscapes. As you walk along paths that echo the twists and turns of the river, you are constantly rewarded with superb views - a hill-top château above a field of walnut trees, an oak-lined meander of the Dordogne, an unspoiled medieval village – making for a thoroughly enjoyable holiday.
The scents of elderflower and mint hung heavy in the air, the cherry trees were laden with fruit, and mile upon mile of track was bordered with honeysuckle and wild roses.
House & Garden
Our gentle walk starts in Beaulieu, whose origins date back to the 9th century, and explores the area south of the town, which is dotted with idyllic villages of turreted mansions and half-timbered houses with brown-tiled roofs, among them Autoire, Loubressac and Carennac, all of which you visit on this walk. Our routes are leisurely, with plenty of time for lazy picnics at the numerous viewpoints along the way.
