South-east of Salzburg, the tranquil village of Ramsau Ort nestles on a sunny, south-facing plateau between the River Enns and the formidable Dachstein Mountains, which are capped by a glacier of the same name. The range’s rocky peaks are a constant companion as you explore, dramatically framing the views on your walks past mirror-like lakes, through pine woods, across lush pastures, through twisting gorges and along high ridges. The extensive network of paths is matched by that of the local buses, meaning that you don’t need a car to access the best of the walking.
We are staying at the Hotel Matschner, run with real love and care by the Knaus family who are rather partial to traditional dress – perhaps it’s not so surprising that they are cheerful.

But the scenery and the walking are not the only reasons for coming to Ramsau Ort: the Hotel Matschner is fantastic too. We have worked with the English-speaking Knaus family for many years, which means that, as an Inntravel guest, you can be sure of a particularly warm welcome and very attentive service. This is complemented by refined, highly praised Austrian cuisine and excellent facilities that include an adjoining leisure complex comprising swimming pools, saunas and jacuzzis.
