walk along the 3-kilometre Lane of Light
wealth of culture, plus great shopping
The people of Gothenburg know how to enjoy Christmas. The three-kilometre-long Lane of Light connecting the port to the country’s largest Christmas market is renowned throughout Scandinavia and, with a few days here during Advent, you’ll soon find yourself swept into the festive spirit.
Dutch planners were involved in the construction of Gothenburg in the first half of the 17th century, and you can certainly see their influence in some parts of this elegant city. The canals, too, lend Gothenburg a distinctly Dutch feel.
The festive magic of the Christmas markets is, however, but part of the story. Sweden’s vibrant second city oozes charm and style, with excellent shopping, a thriving gastronomic scene, and a wealth of cultural attractions. You stay in the heart of the city at the friendly Hotel Vanilla, with breakfast included in its justly renowned café.
