Bologna, the capital of Emilia-Romagna, boasts a handsome and well-preserved historic centre, which still retains its largely medieval character – considered one of the best-maintained in Italy. As well as numerous monuments and towers, the city boasts almost 40km of arcades, including the stretch from Porta Saragozza to San Luca which is the longest in the world.
Happiness, like a fine wine, should be enjoyed sip by sip!

Bologna has earned itself the nicknames of La Dotta, La Grassa and La Rossa (the Learned, the Fat, and the Red). ‘The Learned’ as it boasts the oldest university in the western world – its origin dating back to the year 1088 – with some 80,000 students; ‘The Fat’ because of its high standard of living and the fine culinary traditions and excellent wines; and ‘The Red’ for its red-brick façades on many houses and other buildings in the Old Quarter. Where better then, to learn about the city's colourful architecture while enjoying fine wine and dining than Bologna at New Year.
