Western Sicily boasts a wealth of fascinating history, gastronomy and idyllic landscapes, nowhere more so than along the stretch of coastline between Marsala and Nubia, from where the isolated Egadi Islands dominate the horizon, tranquil oases set in the sparkling azure sea. The cuisine is influenced by so many cultures and is a real highlight. Sicilian dishes make lavish use of colourful local produce, with almonds a particular inspiration for creative desserts. You will find the food inviting and the people very warm - just like the sunny western corner of the island itself.
The glittering sea provides a constant and beguiling backdrop to this wonderful cycle along the coast.
From an exploration of historic Marsala - home to Sicily’s famous golden wine - this route wends its way along the island's idyllic coast, following quiet country lanes past secluded coves, salt pans and small fishing villages to reach the pretty village of Nubia and its neighbouring nature reserve.
