If you’re looking for ideas just across the Channel for romantic getaways or celebratory breaks as a couple – perhaps to mark a silver wedding anniversary or a 60th birthday – Normandy is a great choice. Apple orchards, dovecotes and half-timbered farms – bordered to the north by a beautiful coastline – provide a magnificent backdrop to your break, and the regional cuisine – famed for its use of calvados and cream – tastes suitably indulgent.
When some family friends were looking for ideas for romantic getaways to mark their pearl anniversary, I immediately thought of Le Petit Coq aux Champs. It’s very secluded, and totally charming, with colourful flowers sprouting from the thatched roof in summer – so much so that I’d say it was one of our best romantic getaways for that sort of occasion.
