Why not take the train?
You can leave London St Pancras or Ebbsfleet in the morning and be at your destination by the evening, making it an excellent (not to mention environmentally friendly) way to reach this holiday. You can relax right from the start of your journey as Eurostar services whisk you through the Channel Tunnel to connect with the world-famous French high-speed TGV trains in either Paris or Lille. We reserve seats for you, there is plenty of luggage space, and refreshments are available on board.
You may even break your journey in Paris if you are travelling via the capital. Sit back and enjoy a truly great rail journey! Look for the ‘by rail’ prices in the Prices & Travel section, where you will also find journey details.
self-guided hotel-to-hotel cycling, luggage transported
captivating journey around Europe's third-largest lake
picturesque lakeside routes
handsome towns with ornately painted houses
cycle-friendly culture
Lake Constance draws many cyclists to its picturesque shores, and justly so. The culture is cycle-friendly, and the trails, by sticking close to the water’s edge, are largely flat. Add enchanting medieval towns characterised by houses with intricately painted façades; idyllic scenery; and plenty of cultural interest, and you have all the ingredients for a wonderful holiday.
The German, Austrian and Swiss borders converge in Lake Constance (Bodensee), though no one knows quite where. Beautiful frescoed houses are a common feature of all the lake’s towns, regardless of nation.
With sections in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, there is a real sense of journey and of exploring the heart of Europe as you circumnavigate the lake. This is made all the more rewarding by the camaraderie that exists between cyclists, the majority of whom come here in July and August, creating an animated bustle. The regular, easy-to-use ferries are an integral part of the holiday, offering a different perspective of the lake, its alluring towns and the hills beyond.
