Journey from Vicenza to Venice via Padova and you will discover not only three enthralling, and very different, cities, but also a beautiful landscape in between. Vicenza is a city defined by the masterpieces of design by architect Andrea Palladio, who perfected the Classical style; Padova is an ancient university city, its skyline dominated by the domes and bell towers of the Basilica of St Anthony; and enchanting Venice is, of course, the Veneto’s jewel in the crown.
What better way to approach Venice than along the islands separating this famous floating city and its lagoons from the Adriatic Sea?
Separating the three cities is a mixture of low, green hills and a picturesque plain dotted with perfectly proportioned Palladian villas and crisscrossed by rivers and canals which meander towards the Venetian lagoons. Nestling at the southern end of the lagoons is Chioggia, or ‘Little Venice’, your final base, from where you can embark on a memorable day trip to Venice itself, cycling along narrow islands that command a wonderful perspective of one of the world’s most famous cities.
